Ernst Jünger (1895–1998) was a significant German writer who rose to fame with his first work In Stahlgewittern (1920) which describes his experiences in World War I. Although he served as an army captain in the second World War, he was not sympathetic to the National Socialist movement and was banned by the government from writing.
