ORIGIN

Recruited as test passengers for US spacecraft at the dawn of the space race, Catternauts proved a less-than-ideal choice. They routinely ignored instructions, and their continual shedding played havoc with sensitive electronic equipment in zero-g environments. But in spite of these drawbacks, a contingent of Catternauts is kept on call to this day, mostly for their peerless public relations skills. To put it simply, they look adorable in their little spacesuits.

BEHAVIOR

An effervescent mix of good humor and overwhelming confidence makes Catternauts an extremely popular pet. Many, after retiring from their government duties, relocate directly to the homes (and laps) of generals, senators, and other high-ranking government officials.

WHERE TO FIND THEM

Hanging out at seedy drinking establishments near the Kennedy Space Center or Edwards Air Force Base. Catlike creatures with unusually large eyes and almost no fur have also been sighted at Nevada’s Area 51.
