8. The Truth Shall Set You Free

King, Terri!” the guard yelled.

I jumped when I heard my name. What could he be calling me for? I hadn't let them know I was ready to make my phone call I thought frowning. Hell, ever since I'd last spoken to the guard I'd been trying to figure out exactly what lawyer I'd try to contact with my one phone call. I was also still trying to keep my bladder intact. I refused to use that one lonely toilet sitting in the corner of the cell. Who could I call? My sister and I didn't really get along or keep in contact for that matter but maybe I should call her anyway? Shit! Quinton's ass drains me dry every month with all his smoking and then the drinking....especially since Mia had run away. I'd be lucky if I had five hundred dollars in my savings account right now. I may just need to settle for a public defender, I thought walking to the front of the cell.

“ Yes?”

“Let's go. I'm escorting you to the interrogation room.”

“ Wait, what? Don't I need a lawyer?” I asked confused.

“ I don't know lady. Depends on what you have to hide. If you don't want to answer the questions...ask for a lawyer.” he said opening the cell door. I stepped out and was handcuffed before we proceeded down the corridor.

I literally felt like I could piss on myself.

Jesus.

I spent all my life being a law-abiding citizen until I'd allowed Quinton to enter my life now look at me. I'm being treated like a criminal, the scum of the earth.

The guard sat me in a room and removed the cuffs.

“ Someone will be with you in a moment.”

I sat waiting in the room by myself thinking about the entire predicament I found myself in. Why couldn't Mia just have stayed away? She's a big fuckin' star now. She had no business coming back here to meddle in our lives again.

I heard the doorknob turn and looked up and thought I'd seen a ghost before I slid out of my chair and passed out.
