This brief chapter serves two purposes. It provides the rationale for the Supercharged Worked Examples that I will introduce in Chapter 6. But it also stands alone in its own right, for until I began reading about both the power and subtleties of student self-explanations, I had no idea just what an important part of the learning process they can be.
