About the Author

Paula Young Lee is a cultural historian and backwoods cook. Her books include Meat, Modernity, and the Rise of the Slaughterhouse (ed.); Game: A Global History; and The Birdcage of the Muses: Observing Animals at the 17th-century Ménagerie at Versailles, forthcoming. Her research has been supported by fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and other institutions. She splits her time between West Paris, Maine, and Wellesley, Massachusetts.
