Lytton Strachey: A Critical Biography by Michael Holroyd was originally published

in two volumes, The Unknown Years: 1880–1910 and The Years of

Achievement: 1910–1932. The two volumes were published in the

United States by Holt, Rinehart & Winston Inc., in 1968.

The contents of these volumes, revised and rearranged, were published

in paperback in two different volumes: Lytton Strachey: A Biography and

Lytton Strachey and the Bloomsbury Group, by Penguin Books Ltd. in

Michael Holroyd 1967, 1968, 1971.

Lytton Strachey: A Biography was first published in hardcover as a single

volume by William Heinemann Ltd in 1973.

This present edition combines the contents of all previous editions, revised,

rearranged and cut, with substantial new material added by the author.
