CHAPTER 21

DESSERT

And the unicorn BURST open.

Sweet treats poured out from the broken piñata. Candy, lollipops, bubble gum, and sweet tarts cascaded out of the unicorn.

The dogs—even Stick Dog—stood silent and still over the giant pile of sweet, sweet treasure.

They were in awe.

Then the large male human yelled, “Twenty-two to twenty-one! Next point could win it!”

Stick Dog jerked out of his dessert-induced daze and yelped, “Stuff as much as we can into Mutt’s fur!”

Mutt stood with his legs spread apart, creating as much candy-carrying space on his body as he could.

Poo-Poo, Stripes, Karen, and Stick Dog pushed, shoved, thrust, and nudged as much of that candy into Mutt’s fur as fast as they could.

They had gotten most of it in when the big male human’s voice bellowed one last time from around the corner of the house.

“Twenty-three to twenty-one! The kids win!”

And Stick Dog yelled one last thing too.

“Go!”

And they went.

They scurried away from the maple tree.

Off the patio.

Across the backyard.

Into the woods.

Through the forest.

And, finally, into Stick Dog’s pipe.

When they got there, Mutt gave himself an energetic, vigorous, and massive shake.

And their dessert sprayed everywhere.

The End.
