The three Epistles General of John are without signature; but the tradition, which most biblical scholars accept, is that they were written by the Apostle John, the author of the Fourth Gospel.
My little children, these tings write I unto you, that ye sin not.2:1
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.1:8–9
But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.3:17–18
He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love.4:8
There is not fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear.4:18
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?4:20
