The SKYLARK

What are the sounds of a British summer? Pop music on the
radio wafting from an open car window, as you inch forwards
in a queue of traffic on your way to the beach? The haunting
combination of panpipes and bongos drifting across a town
square? Or just the torrential rain drumming on the roof
of a festival tent, while the disposable barbecue hisses in
the downpour, its sulky demeanour mocked by the distant
crooning of Beyoncé?
