‘England and the Merchant flag Humbug.’ There is nothing to identify the country of origin on the reverse of this postcard, but it was probably produced by pro-Germans in America before she entered the War. It is a rare and valuable mechanical card which exposes England’s tricks of disguising her warships as merchant ships and of changing her flag from the Union Jack to the flags of the Central Powers or of neutral countries. The wheel at the bottom right hand rotates to change the flag from (1) the Union Jack to (2) the Italian flag (before Italy joined the Allies) and (3) the Hungarian flag amongst many other possible variations.
