Chapter 27

Rachel

Megan and I texted for hours that night. Way later than we should have. But I had to fill her in. There was no way I’d be able to wait. I’m pretty sure I heard her squealing all the way up at the cabin at my news. We texted about Kyp. We texted about me. We texted about the new us. I pumped her for information about dating. I hadn’t done much of it. She had all sorts of helpful tidbits. I fell asleep smiling and woke up feeling lighter than I’d felt in weeks.

Kyp had kissed me once more last night. Quietly, just a brush of his lips against mine, before I shut my door to put on my pajamas and text Megan like a crazy woman. My lips were still tingling.

“Morning,” Kyp said shyly as he handed me a cup of coffee and poured himself a second one.

“Morning,” I whispered back. A shiver worked its way down my spine as our fingers brushed. I giggled when I realized he was grinning like a fool. This was new territory for both of us, and there was something special about that.

He chuckled, too, and put down his coffee then reached for me. I nearly scalded myself in my haste to put my cup down then dash into his arms. He didn’t disappoint. His arms came around me in a way that left me feeling safe, protected, and in no doubt of his feelings. His quick intake of breath as his hand hesitantly skimmed the curve of my waist sent little spangles of excitement tripping through me.
