CST Conseil supérieur de la télématique. Superior Telematics Council. The administrative agency in charge of overseeing Télétel.
DGT Direction générale des télécommunications. The branch of the PTT responsible for operating the phone network and Téletel.
Domotique Home automation.
France Telecom Organizational identity of the DGT after 1988. Would keep the name until 2013 when it was renamed Orange, by then a fully privatized corporation.
Intelmatique The France Telecom affiliate in charge of exporting Minitel.
IP Internet Protocol.
Kiosque Literally, kiosk or newsstand, but in the context of Minitel, le kiosque refers to the system for billing users for their connection time.

PAVI Point d’accès vidéotex. Videotex access point. Gateway between the PSTN and the Transpac public data network.

PSTN Public switched telephone network.
PTT Post, Telegraph and Telephone Ministry.
RTC Réseau téléphonique commuté. The public switched telephone network (PSTN).
T3V Télétel 3V. The 3 “V’s” refer to the cities of Vélizy, Versailles, and Val de Bièvre, where one of the two large-scale Minitel experiments was conducted.
TDF Télédiffusion de France. State radio and television monopoly transmission operator after 1974.
Télématique Information and communication services provided by a computer network. A combination of the words “télécommunications” (“telecommunications”) and “informatique” (“informatics”).
Télétel The name of the Minitel ecosystem, combining both analog and digital infrastructures as well as terminal and host servers joined (and billed) by a network of gateways.
Teletext A noninteractive variant of videotex often used to broadcast metadata and news alongside television programming.
Transpac The nationwide packet-switched network in France operated by the DGT, France Telecom, and Orange from 1979 to 2012 using the X.25 protocol.
Videotex An interactive system for the transmission and visual display of data combining telephone and television technologies.
Virtual circuit Preset path between computers where packets all travel on that fixed route.
X.25 Protocol for packet-switched networks providing virtual circuit connections based on the OSI model.
