About the Author

Kim Elsesser, PhD, is a research scholar at the Center for the Study of Women at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA), where she teaches courses on gender issues. Prior to her work in gender research, Elsesser cofounded a profitable proprietary trading group while employed at Morgan Stanley. Her experiences as a quantitative equity trader inspired much of her research on working women.

Elsesser has published in the New York Times and the Guardian, has discussed gender issues on Fox News America Live, NPR’s Talk of the Nation, and BBC World Service’s Business Daily, and was named one of CNN’s “Most Intriguing People. She holds a PhD in psychology from UCLA, two graduate degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and an undergraduate degree from Vassar College. She lives in Pasadena, California.
