ACTOR
Since I was very young I always knew I wanted to be an actress. Even when I was eight years old I would tell my friends in school how much I loved acting and modelling! A lot of people were happy for me, including my teachers and close friends, but some other people (mainly the boys) didn’t show me much support. They would say, ‘You really think you are going to make it big? You will never make it that far.’
It made me sad at times, but I was very determined and I knew I would fulfil my dreams one day. When we went to PE class, we would sometimes have to play basketball and the boys would say, ‘Why do the girls get to play? Basketball is only for boys’ or ‘I doubt she will get a shot.’
Even though nothing they said was positive, it just made me even more determined to prove them wrong. If I had to give advice to my younger self, it would be: Don’t try to please everyone or prove yourself more than you have to. I did that quite a bit in school, not realizing I didn’t have to prove anything to anyone! As long as what I was doing made me happy, I shouldn’t have to worry about anyone else’s opinion. To me, being a girl is being independent, strong, empowering and caring, and supporting my fellow girls out there!
I AM PROUD TO BE AN
INDEPENDENT, STRONG AND
EMPOWERING GIRL!!
