WEDDING TOASTS

A formal wedding reception generally follows this pattern of toasts:

  1. The Loyal Toast (to the reigning monarch): proposed by master of ceremonies or the bride’s father, without speech. Smoking is not usually permitted until the toast has been made.

  2. Toast to the Bridal Couple: proposed by friend of bride’s family after speech.

  3. Toast to Bridesmaids: proposed by groom after response to the foregoing.

  4. Toast to Groom: proposed by best man after response to foregoing.

  5. Toast to Parents of Bride: proposed by relative or friend.

  6. Response by Bride’s father.

  7. Toast to Parents of Groom: proposed by relative or friend.

  8. Response by Groom’s father.

  9. Reading of telegrams by best man and groomsmen.
