Chapter Eighteen

Far Ranger’s War

 

Hellsinc Space Port on the planet Perdition: Three months previous

 

 

She stepped out onto the floor of Far Ranger’s office. Then bent over and vomited.

“Red Moon?” Far Ranger asked as he rounded his desk and caught her as she began to fall. He set her down and held her as she vomited again. “I am afraid to ask. What did you do? The Wizards were headed toward the camp and then they all stopped and disappeared.”

“I went to the hollow moon where they live. I met a machine named Leto. I stole Harbinger back from him.

“Did you,” Far Ranger said, stroking back her hair. “Where did you put him? This Harbinger?”

“In my pocket,” she said.

Far Ranger laughed.

Red Moon punched him in the chest and pushed him away. “We need to find that moon. It is in this reality. Leto is fool. I would have hidden it around a corner in one of the shadow realms, if I were them.”

“Ever the blood-thirsty Wizard hunter, you are,” Far Ranger said, smiling. “I will have my techs begin the search for all things Leto.”

“Better still,” Red Moon said, fishing the Scerron knot out of her pocket. “I stole this from its nav-console.”

Far Ranger grinned. “Clever thief, take that to . . .”

The alarms began to ring.

Red Moon knew that tone. They were being attacked, not by Wizards, but by real soldiers.

“Gear up,” shouted Far Ranger into his com. He grabbed her and pulled her to her feet. Then they began to run in earnest.
