Chapter 15

image

Edwin

He never wanted this night to end. If he could stay right where he was, on his couch with Hannah beside him, eating her leftover cookies from the cabin and laughing about nothing at all, he’d be happy.

He didn’t need anything else.

Which was crazy because his whole life had been about soccer. And now, he wanted Hannah to be his whole life.

Hell, he’d fucked her on the hood of his car in his garage. His brand new Corvette that he’d just bought after winning the championship. That’s not something he would have ever done if he wasn’t fully in love.

It was also a memory he’d never forget. The way she’d teased him, practically making him beg her to hurry up, to let him inside her body. She’d looked sexy and wanton and he’d never been in such a rush in his whole life. He couldn't wait for the day that they decided to go without condoms. Not only because he imagined it would feel amazing but it would save so much time when they were both frantic for each other.

Maybe he would bring it up to her so they could each get tested before they saw each other again.

“I really need to go to sleep,” she said, yawning through her words, “but I don't want this night to end.”

“I know how you feel,” he said, pulling her against him so that her back was against his chest. “Thank god my flight doesn't leave until the afternoon.” This was the first time in his life that he was dreading winter training. “What will you do when you get home?”

“I don’t know. I still have a week until I go back to work. Maybe I’ll spend some time with Heath since I rarely get to see him.”

An idea formed in his head. “You could come to Florida with me.”

She turned in his arms, giving him a quizzical look. “I can’t come to Florida. If I did that, it would be obvious why I was there.”

He sighed, knowing she was right. For a second, he forgot that they were keeping this quiet. “Shit, I know that.” He dropped his head back against the couch. “It’s just going to suck not having you with me.”

“Even if our relationship was out in the open, I still wouldn’t be able to come with you. I have a job.”

She sounded angry. “I know you have a job and I think you’re amazing at it.” He wasn’t about to remind her that she was suspended.

“Do you? Because you really seem to forget it half the time.” She wiggled out of his embrace and stood. “You're not the only one with a career they love.”

“Hannah,” his voice sounded desperate, “I didn’t mean anything by it. I know you love your job and you should. I’m just sick at the thought of not seeing you for weeks and weeks. It literally makes my chest hurt.”

Her face softened and she came to stand next to him. He immediately wrapped his arms around her legs and leaned his head against her stomach, sighing in contentment just to touch her. She stroked his hair gently. “It’s hard for me too,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “I can’t even think about what the days will look like without you or how I’m going to sleep alone.”

He hated that being apart was causing her pain but he also reveled in the fact that she was feeling the same way as him. “We can do this,” he said strongly, not just for her but for himself. He lifted his head, looking up at her. “I know we can.”

Her hand lowered to his chin, stroking over the beard that had started to grow from days of not shaving. “We can do this,” she said, her voice firm even if the words were barely whispered.

They spent the rest of the night making slow, sweet love in his bed, where afterward, he held her in his arms until they both fell asleep. When they woke up, he made love to her once more, taking his time and making sure she’d never want to give this up.

Give him up.

He didn’t say the words he so desperately wanted to say, because he knew it was too soon. That didn’t mean he wasn’t thinking them. He was. Day and night, every second, she had his love, whether she knew it or not.

As he drove her back to Zara’s house, they were both quiet, neither of them saying a word until he pulled into her driveway. He’d brought his truck because being with her in his Corvette would only bring back memories of the night before.

“This sucks,” she said, looking out the window toward the house.

He reached across the seat, grabbing her hand and squeezing it in his own. “I meant what I said last night. We got this. Hannah, I can survive a few months if that’s what it takes. I’ve already survived five years of sitting back and waiting.”

She stared at their joined hands. “That was before I knew, before I felt the same way.” Finally, she looked up at him. “And before you made me fall for you.”

He stopped breathing. Was she saying what he thought she was saying?

“I’m not going to say it,” she kept going before he could speak. “I can’t, not until I figure out my life. But I need you to know that you mean more to me than anything.”

He leaned across the console, gripping her face in his hands. He didn’t speak, only searched her face before crushing his mouth to hers. He gave her everything he had to make her see that he felt the same way. They would say the words. Someday.

Just not today.

Breathing heavily, he pressed his forehead against hers. “Call me when you get home.” He sounded desperate but there was no way to conceal it and he didn’t want to, even if he could.

She nodded. “And you'll text me when you get on the plane and again when you land?”

“And probably a hundred more times in between.” He smiled. “Shane has wifi on the plane.”

She tipped her head back, laughing. “Of course he does.”

He moved back to his seat reluctantly, giving her space. The air hung heavy between them but no more words were necessary. They both knew they were doing what they had to do. They’d be together again, he’d make sure of it.

She gave him a last look and he squeezed her hand one last time before letting go and getting out. He watched her walk toward the house and as she got to the door, she turned, giving him a small smile and wave of her fingers.

He couldn’t seem to make himself pull away, even once she was inside the house. Minutes ticked by as he just sat and stared out his front windshield. In his head, he pictured himself jumping out of the truck, running up to the door, and knocking wildly. She’d open the door, he’d immediately profess his love and she'd jump into his arms, kissing him like she never wanted him to let her go.

And he wouldn't.

He wasn’t going to do that, though. She needed to work this out on her own and the right thing to do was to let her. She knew how he felt. Well, most of how he felt. There was nothing more he could do but get on the plane and fly to Florida.

After he pulled into the airport, he parked his truck, grabbed his gear then boarded the plane, taking his usual seat right next to Dallas, who was already there.

“So,” he said with the raise of an eyebrow, “how’d it go?”

Edwin nodded several times. “Like expected.” He dropped back in the plush leather seat. “How do you do this? Be away from Ruby all the time?”

“I’m lucky because I don't really have to.” He pointed a few rows behind them and sure enough, there was Ruby, sitting next to Cassidy, the team's physical therapist and Shane’s sister.

Edwin faced his friend again. “I fucking hate you.”

Dallas let out a big booming laugh. “You don’t, you just want to be with your woman.”

His woman. Was that what Hannah was? God, he hoped so. “This is going to be a long ten days.”

Dallas slapped him on the back. “Don’t worry, I’ll help keep you busy.”

“When you aren’t locked in your room with Ruby,” he said, with an eye roll.

“Nope, I’m under strict instructions to leave her be during working hours. She has a job to do and she doesn’t want me getting in her way. Also, from what I hear, we’ll be busy breaking in a new keeper.”

That got Edwin’s attention. “A new keeper? What happened to Spenser.” Colin Spenser had been with the team for the last two years and helped them win the championship. Edwin was shocked Shane would let him go.

A shadow fell over them and when Edwin looked up, he saw Shane standing next to them. “Spenser opted out of his contract last week at the last minute and wouldn’t listen to any renegotiations. He’s not talking and neither is his agent.”

“Is that normal?” Edwin asked.

“Not that I've ever seen,” Shane said, taking the seat across from them. “Most of the time when someone opts out, they’re looking for more money or a new team. As far as I’ve heard, he hasn’t signed with anyone else.”

“Who’s the new guy?” Dallas asked.

“You’ll all meet him at the complex,” Shane said. “But I think you’re going to be happy. My wallet, on the other hand, is not going to be.”

“Ahh, did you have to spend money?” Edwin looked up to see Cooper approaching.

“Fuck you, Holland.”

Cooper slid in beside Shane. “And to think, you were the best man at my wedding.”

“Because no one else would ever put up with you for a couple of days, let alone years,” Shane quipped back.

“If you want, I’ll opt out of my new contract and make you spend even more money.”

“As if you aren’t the highest-paid player on the team,” Dallas said, easily, without an ounce of jealousy.

“Boys,” Edwin butt in, “let’s not compare dicks. You already know I’d win that contest.” In actuality, he had no clue who’s dick was bigger. It was just a fun game they played.

Cooper leaned around Shane. “Should we ask the lovely Hannah for confirmation?”

“Oh, yes, let’s,” Dallas said, amusement in his voice.

“The boss in me wants to shut this down,” Shane said. “But the part of me that has become friends with you assholes, feels like we should definitely text her and ask.”

“I got it!” Dallas, somehow with the speed of light, grabbed Edwin’s phone from his hand.

Edwin reached for it, but Dallas held it out toward Shane who took it from his hand. Before he knew what was happening, Cooper had it and was typing away.

“Seriously, guys, can you give it back to me?” He wasn’t overly worried. Hannah had a great sense of humor and part of him wanted to hear what she had to say.

“Dear Hannah,” Cooper spoke as he typed. “Inquiring minds want to know. Does Edwin’s dick live up to the hype? Send.” He hit the screen with emphasis.

“Can I have my phone now?” he asked.

“Not until I get an answer,” Cooper said.

“You know, I really miss the days before Mae came into your life,” Edwin said to Cooper. “You kept to yourself and never got involved.”

“I’ve seen the error of my ways,” Cooper said like he meant it. “Oh, she’s answering!”

“What’s it say?” Dallas urged him on.

“I assume this is this Dallas or, I don’t know, maybe someone else. But for the record, Edwin absolutely lives up to the hype. He exceeds the hype. If you’re concerned for my vagina, she is very happy and almost wishes his dick was a little smaller. Do you know how hard it is to get that thing inside me?”

“Damn, Boyle!” Dallas shouted so that everyone on the plane turned to look at them.

“I’ve decided this is information I’m not sure I want,” Shane said. “Especially since you were at my cabin for four days. I feel like I should hire cleaners to come in and clean the whole place. Or maybe I should just burn the couch.” He looked horrified. “Shit, should I burn the couch?”

“Says the man who won’t let anyone sit on a certain couch in his office,” Cooper said with an annoyed eye roll.

“I’m going to go out on a limb here and say you should definitely burn the couch,” Dallas said before Edwin could speak for himself.

Edwin gave up and joined in on the insanity. “Maybe just burn the whole cabin.”

After that, things settled down and Cooper passed his phone back to him. He immediately texted Hannah.

Edwin:

Sorry about Cooper, he’s not easily controlled.

Hannah:

Cooper? I really thought that was Dallas. Either way, I’ve got your back.

Hannah:

I take it you’re on the plane?

Edwin:

Yeah, just a few minutes from takeoff.

Hannah:

I already miss you.

Edwin:

I miss you too.

Hannah:

I  also miss your very large dick.

Edwin:

He misses you too.

He laughed and tucked his phone into his pocket. Hannah surprised him more every day. She wasn’t shy and didn’t have any issues saying what was on her mind. It was sexy as hell and he couldn’t wait to call her up and listen to her wax poetic about his dick.

He slept most of the trip. Considering he hadn’t gotten much sleep the night before, and he wasn’t sure how he was going to sleep without her next to him, he was trying to bank as much as he could. After they landed and took the bus to the hotel, he dropped his bags in his room, fell onto his bed, and FaceTimed Hannah.

When her face came into view on his screen, he smiled for the first time in hours. “Hey.”

“Hi,” she said happily. “I’ve been wondering when you’d call.”

“We just got in. How was your drive home?”

“Actually,” she drew out the word, “I didn't go home. I decided to stay one more day with Zara. She sort of made me.” She pursed her lips and rolled her eyes.

“I knew I liked Zara.” He’d hated thinking of her driving when she’d been tired.

“She’s been at work all day, though, so I’m basically just hanging out in her house by myself.”

He scooted back on the bed. “There are advantages to being by yourself.” His dick was already hard thinking of those advantages. He was not going to touch himself. Not unless she wanted him to.

“Are you insinuating that you want me to get naked?” She gave him a shy smile.

“Never,” he said, his breathing already heavy thinking about it.

The phone shook a little and he watched as she stood up from where she’d been sitting and started walking. “If I’m going to do that, I should probably move to a bedroom.”

Fuck, his cock got even harder in his pants. Wanting them out of the way, he worked to get them off. “When you get there, take that sweatshirt off and show me those sexy tits.” His mouth watered just thinking about seeing her tits.

She laughed, the sound going straight to his dick. “You really do have an obsession with them, don’t you?” She didn’t sound put off, more intrigued.

“Yes, I absolutely do. Every time I saw you, you were wearing a shirt that hid them from me. You never gave any hint at what was under your clothing and it ate me alive wondering.”

A bed came into view behind her and he watched as she sat down and then propped the phone against something so he could see her whole body. “Well then, let me put you out of your misery.” She crossed both arms in front of her body, grabbed the hem of the sweatshirt, and swiftly pulled it over her head.

Her tits came into full view.

“No bra,” he whispered, salivating at the sight of her bare tits.

She leaned forward just a little, giving him an even better view of her chest. “I hate them when I’m home. Plus, I sort of had a feeling you’d be calling.”

“Does that mean you also aren’t wearing any underwear?” His hand was already stroking his cock. It wasn’t her tits or even her face that had him hard. It was just her.

Hannah.

His Hannah.

“I think before I tell you that, you should really even up the odds here.” She pointed to his still-covered chest.

He laughed. “Oh, baby, they're already even.” He moved the phone so she could see his hand wrapped around his dick.

She gasped. “Jesus, warn a girl before you show her your cock, why don’t you.”

“You love my cock.” He moved the phone back to his face. “Or so you told my friends earlier.” He raised an eyebrow as he kept stroking his cock.

“I wasn’t about to lie.” He watched as she slipped her sweatpants down her legs, her pussy now right there for him to see. “And you were right. No underwear.” She spread her legs, letting him get an eyeful.

“Fuck, you’re so gorgeous.” He gripped his cock harder, hoping to make this last. “Touch yourself. Show me how much you miss me.”

While her fingers slid down her body and between her legs, he repositioned himself so his phone was propped up in front of him, giving her a full view of him stroking his dick. He ripped his shirt over his head, dropping it beside him, knowing he’d need to use it to clean up as soon as he came.

“Are you wet?” he asked, not even sure how he was forming words. It was so sexy watching her play with herself. He’d loved watching it in person and he loved watching it over the phone.

“So wet,” she moaned out. “And aching. I wish you were here.”

“Me too.” He stroked himself faster. “If I was there, I’d be between your thighs, licking that fucking pussy until you came all over my face.”

“Oh god.” She arched off the bed, her fingers moving faster against her clit. “I’m so close.”

Talking was hard but he wanted her to get there, so he kept going. “After I made you come with my mouth, I’d slide my hard cock inside you and fuck you hard until you came again.” He felt his release barreling through his body and stopping it was not a possibility.

“OH YES!” she shouted out as she came, her body shaking over the screen of the phone.

“Fuck,” he hissed out as his release coated his stomach and fist.

Breathing was the only sound coming over the line and when he looked at the screen, he saw Hannah was still naked except now her legs were closed and she was curled on her side. After cleaning up with the shirt by his side, he grabbed his phone.

“Hey,” he said quietly.

She smiled. “I think I like phone sex, although, seeing you in person would be better.”

Her words made him wonder if this was her first time. It was sure as fuck his. “Have you always been so willing to try new things?” He hated thinking of her with other men but it wasn’t like he’d been a monk. Hell, he’d gone on a dating spree the last two months.

“Yes and no.” She grabbed the phone, showing him only her face. He could no longer see her naked body. Which was probably a good thing. “I always wanted to do different things but I never really vocalized it before you.”

He groaned. Hearing that was not helping him not want her. “What’s different?”

“I’m comfortable with you. I feel like I can be myself and you won’t judge me.” She shrugged and pursed her lips. “It helps that you seem to like the adventurous stuff too.”

“Like is too small a word,” he told her. He loved everything they did together. He’d never done half that stuff with anyone else and never wanted to.

She’d see that eventually. Until then, he’d keep showing her that they were made to be together.
