Picnics aren’t just for summer; and Presidents’ Day may be the perfect time to pack a simple meal and head outdoors for an adventure. Some of life’s memorable moments may be awaiting you. Make the most of a snowy winter day by soaring downhill on a sled, snowboarding, skiing, snowshoeing, skating, building a snowman, or just enjoying nature. Perhaps you’ll see a deer or rabbit on the run as the slopes sparkle in the sun.
Pausing for a picnic will brighten your day. Make it simple. Choose a “hot” picnic that suits your fancy and enjoy. For quick snacking and refreshment, pack fruit slices, such as oranges, bananas, and apples (sprinkled with lemon juice so they stay fresh). Or, consider crisp carrot and celery sticks. To crisp vegetables, slice and dice as desired then place in Ziploc bags. Fill bags with a small amount of water and refrigerate overnight. Drain before serving.
Remember to pack a plastic tarp to insure a dry place to sit; gather other outdoor supplies and any equipment that may be needed.
If there’s no snow in sight, plan another adventure—perhaps at the beach or lake. Or, you may decide to go walking, hiking, biking, or exploring a new horizon. You may want to choose a menu from another section in the book. As the sun begins to sink in the sky, feel the joy of being in the great outdoors with family or friends on a winter day.
