THANKS AND RECOGNITION

My initial inspiration to write this book came from a conversation I had with my comrade and friend Howard Waitzkin. My intention was to write something I could contribute to his marvelous series of pamphlets/manifestos called “Moving Beyond Capitalism—Now!” My next writing project will try do just that, focusing on postcapitalist schooling and linked in concrete ways to the ideas sketched out here.

My sincere thanks to comrades/collaborators Damon Williams and Daniel Kisslinger from the generative podcast AirGo and the dazzling media hub Respair Production and Media, as well as all those friends and comrades who read this as a work in progress and offered me your thoughtful notes: Rachel DeWoskin, Zayd Dohrn, Rick Ayers, Kevin Kumashiro, Howard Waitzkin, Wayne Au, Dayton Martingale, Julie Fain, Firoze Manji, Peter Clapp, Carole Saltz, Eleanor Stein, Lisa Lee, Adam Bush, and Bernardine Dohrn.

Deep appreciation to the smart and dedicated people at Beacon Press for “shining light on the past, spotlighting what matters in the present, and guiding us toward a better world”: Gayatri Patnaik, Perpetua Charles, Claire Desroches, Alyssa Hassan, Rebecca Johnson, Susan Lumenello, Pamela MacColl, Emily Shelton, and especially my dazzling editor, Rachael Marks.
