296The study of unidentified aerial phenomena can be traced back to the year 1948. From that year, every reported UFO case has been forwarded to the United States Air Force, where it is reviewed, and an explanation provided (even in cases where there simply wasn’t an explanation). Before going into this section on government projects, I must point out that just because a UFO case was investigated does not mean that it was adequately done or that it was investigated objectively and without any biases. The majority of these government funded projects have been underfunded and have had a lack of resources, making it impossible for the air force to investigate the UFO reports sufficiently.

Throughout the following chapters, it will become more evident how the air force has disregarded one of the most significant UFO cases and simply provided the same generic explanation to the majority of the reports. Even when some cases simply could not be explained, the air force still provided an explanation even if it did not corroborate with the details of the sighting and witness statements. The extraterrestrial hypothesis itself was rarely even considered. In fact, it was never used to explain any of the cases thus far. To this day, the air force has never publicly stated that a UFO report was a result of an interplanetary flying object.

In this section, we shall examine every project that has been funded by the air force in order to investigate the reported UFO sightings.
