Dear Reader

Thank you for joining Hayley and Sean in their wild outdoor adventure. I hope you enjoyed meeting Mack, too. He’s a gutsy, sassy one. What a pleasure it’s been to write about them and share their story with you.

Not many of us will ever find ourselves in a situation like Hayley and Sean, being hunted through the wilderness by crooks bent on killing them, but few of us have led lives unscathed by loss or trauma. Many of us, like Sean, struggle to cope with our feelings of guilt for foolish or even silly small things we’ve done or not done that seem connected to larger tragedies. Or, as in Hayley’s case, we find ourselves years later still living in unhealthy ways or with unhealthy attitudes because of a senseless tragedy in our pasts.

Whatever the case for you, my prayer is that Sean and Hayley’s story provide some glimmer of a way forward in living out your own stories. As Sean and Hayley discovered, an honest look at themselves, a conversation with a trusted other who regards them with a nonjudgmental eye and a simple but profound change of perspective can begin to mend the broken places. May truth bathed in grace and hope set you free.
