THE contents of each year’s Luminara picnic basket change depending on what’s good that season. By the time the event was over, there wasn’t a lot left in the kitchen, but here’s what was in the basket Luke packed for Simon at the end of the night:
Nasturtium and borage flowers on mixed baby greens with an orange squeezed over everything
Cubes of moon-and-stars watermelon, served with fresh chopped mint
Spiced walnuts (walnuts sauteed lightly with butter, a pinch of sugar, sprig of rosemary, and a pinch of black pepper) in a light cheese tart (8 ounces of Brie or Camembert, 1 egg, 1/4 cup nuts, mixed together and baked at 350F in tart shells until the cheese bubbles and cooled before serving)
Brie or Camembert
Fresh bread
Wild strawberries, au naturel
Champagne, of course
