Gluten-intolerant foodies, have no fear: More and more restaurants are serving up a range of delicious gluten-free (GF) options. But don’t always expect to be able to eat from the menu. Ask if the chef can provide something gluten-free. Many restaurant chefs are happy to oblige once they know the reason for the request. Other tips:
Steak houses, seafood restaurants, and Indian cuisine offer more items likely to be GF than Asian or Mexican foods. Sushi is an excellent GF food; however, bring your own soy sauce. Salads are an excellent GF food, especially with grilled chicken or tuna.
Also, contact the restaurant ahead of time to find out whether a gluten-free diet can be accommodated and if the kitchen staff is well educated about avoiding sources of cross-contamination.
