10. TROLL FALLS
Perfect for young kids – not too long, not too short, with interesting and changing scenery throughout.
LOCATION

DISTANCE
3.7-km loop
ELEVATION GAIN
30 m
DIFFICULTY
Easy, recommended for all ages; good trail throughout. Some tree roots to contend with near the falls.
SEASON
Late spring, summer and early fall.
OF SPECIAL INTEREST FOR CHILDREN
Lots of varied terrain and views. Take your time and enjoy the variety. Note that much of this trail is bikeable.
1.Just past the metal gate, you will see the trail (Hay Meadow) on the right side. Follow it through forest, eventually arriving at a good viewpoint for the Kananaskis River and Wasootch Peak.
2.Continue along the trail, passing the eagle-watching area and soon arriving at two small buildings. The trail goes between the two.
3.Follow the trail through light forest to where it joins with another trail. Turn right onto this trail and follow it a short distance to a sign for Troll Falls.
4.Hike to the falls. Be careful when exploring the area around Troll Falls. The kids may want to scramble up to the ledge and go behind the waterfall – quite possible, but a slip would be very bad.
5.Either return the same way you came in or, for a little variety, instead of turning left, go back onto the original trail (3), go straight and follow this trail back to the parking lot. A couple of well-signed intersections along the way will guide you back.
A good view of the Kananaskis River.
