Author’s Note

 

 

Hi peeps

 

Here we are at the beginning of the Diamond Series. I never intended to write a Western, but my previous publisher was launching a new interconnected Western series all based in the same fictional town and asked me to participate. At the time (and also now if I’m being honest!) I was quite enamoured of the TV series, Deadwood, so was delighted to come up with a story set in the Old West.

 

I had a think and came up with a lady saloon owner and a shifty Englishman. I also wanted a title that was a bit of a play on words, and when I came up with the coal mining subplot, what was more perfect than naming the saloon ‘The Diamond’ and naming the novel ‘Rough Diamond’ which is a nickname for coal! Genius! Things evolved from there and ROUGH DIAMOND was born.

 

When I received the rights to ROUGH DIAMOND back from my previous publisher, I had already written FOOL’S GOLD for said publisher and was in the process of finalising EMERALD SEA to publish independently. As there was such a long time between drinks (ROUGH DIAMOND was originally published in 2012, as was FOOL’S GOLD. EMERALD SEA was published in 2021), Ethan from FOOL’S GOLD was not much of a character and his antagonistic relationship with Pearl was not as strong as I would have liked, and Jake from EMERALD SEA was not mentioned at all. I’ve now spruced up ROUGH DIAMOND, added Jake from EMERALD SEA and introduced more scenes with Ethan from FOOL’S GOLD. It’s still the same story but with a 2022 make over!

 

FOOL’S GOLD will also go through a significant makeover. At the moment, Ethan and Pearl’s story is a short novella but it will be expanded to be the same length as ROUGH DIAMOND and EMERALD SEA. However, FOOL’S GOLD is available for preorder now so it will hit your ereader as soon as it’s published.
