BEE

bee

The honey bee has been around for millions of years and is the only insect that produces food eaten by humans. In some cultures, honey has been used as medicine for over five thousand years, and modern medicine is finding uses for it, especially in wound care and cough suppression. Honey contains many of the substances necessary to sustain life, including enzymes, vitamins, minerals, and water, and it also contains an antioxidant associated with improved brain functioning. There are three castes of bee: queen, worker, and drone. All drones are male, all workers are female, and all of them work for one queen. Beyond making honey, bees play a critical role in the delicate balance of our ecosystem. If this small but essential being disappears from our world, humans will not be far behind.

Key Attributes

Fertility, productivity, achieving goals, accomplishing the seemingly impossible, and enjoying the sweetness of life.

Chakra Interpretations

Root

Honey bees have incredible olfactory abilities that aid them in family recognition, social communication within the hive, and odor recognition for finding food. Each beehive has a distinct odor, and bees whose odors do not match will not be allowed in. It could be that you are very sensitive to odors, possibly even suffering from hyperosmia to the point where being around strong odors gives you a headache or makes you feel ill. Opposite of this could be that you love to fill your home with pleasing scents: fresh flowers, scented candles, or even plug-in room fresheners.

Sacral

A bee is hardwired to do specific tasks; they are what it lives for and what gives it pleasure. It is very likely that your job takes up all your waking hours, and you’re perfectly okay with that. The mere fact that bees can fly given their size compared to the fragility of their wings is proof that anything is possible with energy and intention. Believe in your abilities, and you can accomplish anything. Stop letting things weigh you down; trust that your wings will lift you. From a practical standpoint, the bee in this chakra could mean that you are a passionate beekeeper.

Solar Plexus

A worker bee’s role changes over time as the bee ages. Hive roles include cleaners, undertakers, nurses, builders, temperature controllers, guards, and foragers. When it is clear to you what your role is in the “hive,” you give it all your energy. It could be that you have changed careers several times during your lifetime because whatever it was you were doing no longer gave you satisfaction. Maybe you switched majors in school or went back to school after one career had run its course. Another possibility is that you tend to pick a new talent or hobby to explore every few years and then move on to the next thing that strikes your fancy once you feel like you’ve mastered the last one. A word of caution from the bee in this chakra: a bee will work itself to death, so you might want to ask yourself if it is time to take a vacation.

Heart

In addition to dance, one of the ways bees communicate is by touching each other using their highly sensitive antennae. It is second nature for you to make physical contact with people when you talk. You may not feel like you are connecting with someone unless you do. Researchers believe that some bees are shyer than others and that some are more adventurous. Does either of these aspects speak to you? Are you afraid to reach out for fear of being stung, or can you comfortably do something for the sheer adventure of it? One aspect of bee will speak to a limited number of people: you might lean toward polyamory as a lifestyle, flitting from flower to flower rather than staying with one. If this is the case, just be sure that all parties are agreeable, or someone will be stung.

Throat

Bees don’t have ears, but they can still sense sound: they pick up vibrations in the air. From a practical standpoint, perhaps you have trouble with your hearing or may suffer from tinnitus. One aspect of the bee could be a warning to watch how you speak, because your words can be interpreted as both sweetness or stinging. Another trait of the bee is that in addition to touching, bees communicate by dancing. Maybe you need to join a dance class or share a slow romantic dance with your honey.

Third Eye

While most humans see color in combinations of red, blue, and green, bees see colors based on the ultraviolet spectrum in shades of blue and green. From a real-life standpoint, the bee in this chakra could just mean that you live with color vision deficiency, also called color blindness, and you see the world in a different way than most. The fact that bees see ultraviolet light patterns that are invisible to humans can be a useful tool for anyone; it means you can work with the bee to open your mind’s eye to see in a different way and in a different spectrum.

Crown

Some think that bees have mathematician-style problem-solving skills. If they have ten flowers to visit, they will work out the shortest route between all of them. The bee in this chakra could very well mean that your mind solves problems faster than most can even start to understand them. You solve complex puzzles seemingly out of thin air. When planning a trip, you most likely know the fastest route and have a plan for any emergencies that may happen along the way. It is possible that your mind is always busy to the point where you are not able to relax enough to connect with this chakra. As mentioned earlier, a bee will work itself to death, so this is a caution that it may be time for you to slow down and smell the roses.
