RABBIT

rabbit

Beliefs about the rabbit range from symbolizing good fortune in China to being known as Fear Caller by some Native Americans. In Celtic tradition, the rabbit or hare is associated with the Otherworld. During the Renaissance, artists used rabbits to represent both purity and lust. Because of their prolific reproductive nature, it is not surprising that they became a symbol of fertility, the season of spring and rebirth, and eventually Easter. Today the rabbit has also become a symbol for cruelty-free products, making it easier for those who try to only buy products that are not tested on animals. Rabbits can be litter-box trained and make excellent house pets. Because they are social by nature, they make great companions not only for the humans in the house but also the other pets. Many people think giving a baby bunny to a child for Easter is cute; unfortunately, however, many of these well-meaning gifts end up in animal shelters or worse before their first birthday. It is much better to give a toy bunny, but if a real one is genuinely wanted, shelters typically have several available for adoption.

Key Attributes

Creative intuition, gentleness, possibly obsessive thoughts about fear and loss, a guide to the shadow world, ability to attract abundance, and fertility.

Chakra Interpretations

Root

Rabbits are very territorial and live in hierarchical groups that often overlap with other groups. They are social creatures and need companionship and community. These aspects could be symbolizing that you don’t need or want much alone time. In fact, it could be that you are uncomfortable spending any time alone. You may even like to live with housemates if you don’t live in a traditional family structure. Another possibility for the rabbit in the root chakra has to do with how a rabbit constructs its warren. It builds the warren not only with different rooms but also multiple underground tunnels with many entrances and exits. You probably feel safest if you have various places you can run to if you feel threatened.

Sacral

One well-known adage is “breeding like rabbits.” If this speaks to you, it could mean that you either already have or dream of having lots of children. If human children are not what you desire, perhaps you fill your home with lots of companion animals. You might very well be a crazy cat person. Rabbits can go from being very calm to frantic in the blink of an eye and are adept at staying hidden when they want to, and if this speaks to you, it could be that you are the kind of person who can disappear in a crowd or party if they feel uncomfortable. You can also go from sleeping to wide awake and functional right away, even without coffee.

Solar Plexus

The Fear Caller aspect of the rabbit may be saying that you have a knee-jerk reaction when it comes to what frightens you. You might have a habit of running for safety at the slightest twinge of fear. Fear is thought, and thoughts have energy. The universe doesn’t know the difference between things you want and things you don’t, only that you are sending out energy. This is a reminder and a caution that you might be attracting the very thing you fear, and it may be holding you back from truly living. Try cloaking yourself in bravery so the projections can stop. On the other hand, a happy rabbit performs a cute dance called a binky: you might be the kind of person who literally jumps for joy when they are happy!

Heart

As mentioned earlier, rabbits need the company of others. Rabbit energy says that your heart only feels safe and happy when you are among others of like mind so you can let your shields down. Another possibility has to do with rabbits not being monogamous. It is possible that being with just one person isn’t a high priority for you; in fact, you might even be polyamorous. Regardless of which rings true, you love and need to snuggle on a regular basis.

Throat

Rabbits tend to be quiet creatures, but they do make some noises, including cooing, honking, teeth grinding (a happy sound), and even growling like a cat. It might be that you tend to be a shy person but will give a quiet warning if you feel challenged or threatened. It could also be that you are afraid of your own voice or even have stage fright. If this is the case, try to be brave and speak your truth.

Third Eye

Baby rabbits are born naked and blind and need to remain in a fur-lined nest for the first few days of their lives. This part of rabbit life could be saying that you are afraid of opening your third eye to what is unfamiliar, preferring to stay in the safety of the known. If you want to be more open in this chakra, try calling on the energy of an animal whose courage you admire. Once a rabbit is an adult, it is farsighted to the extreme, and it has a blind spot in front of its nose. This could be saying that you perceive a great deal but sometimes miss the obvious.

Crown

When you are in prayer or meditating, you do so from a place of stillness and humility. If not, the rabbit in this chakra is a suggestion to try this approach. Being quiet and listening carefully to what is going on in your surroundings, you can hear with the rabbit’s large ears the messages that are coming through for you. Another possibility is the previously mentioned Fear Caller aspect. It is possible that the concept of Spirit is too big and scary for you to grasp, so you shy away from it. There is no reason to fear: Spirit loves you and wants a connection with you.
