Sketching approaches can be combined to create a finished drawing. We’ll use this process throughout the demonstrations in Chapter 3, where we’ll work up a structural sketch, then combine it with another sketching/drawing approach, either by adding values or with contour drawing.
Work up a structural sketch of the subject with attention to accurate proportions and placement of features. At this stage don’t add any additional line work.
Use the structural sketch as a guide for the placement of the finished line work. In this example, the structural sketch combines with values to create the finished drawing.
