Aligning compares the placement of elements of a subject through line comparisons. Vertical, horizontal and angle are three comparisons to look for throughout the sketching and drawing processes.
Use a pencil placed straight up and down to look for elements that align vertically. In this example, the face aligns with the stomach and the heel.
Use a pencil placed straight across for horizontal aligning. In this example, the elbow aligns with the top of the leg and the knee.
For angle aligning, observe any features of the subject that line up or angle. In this example, the forehead aligns with the knee and the toes.
