I feel repetitive complimenting Jack Langer, who is uniquely gifted in all aspects of writing and editing. He conscientiously reads and rereads—again and again. He tightens, clarifies, polishes, and sometimes even restructures certain portions of the text, and he challenges me to rework certain paragraphs or sentences when he thinks they might confuse the reader. My writing has improved so much over the years just watching him work with my manuscripts. As I’ve mentioned before, he does magic without ever insinuating himself into the text. It’s never about ego with him; it’s never about advocating his own point or ideas. It’s only about trying to help me better express the ideas I am trying to convey, and he has a knack for making suggestions that neither alter the meaning nor my voice. He is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever encountered. On more than one occasion we were trading emails and calls significantly past midnight my time in Missouri, and he is in D.C. I hope that he will continue to edit my books as long as I continue to write them.
