Bridgeport (West)
Map 12
Nestled just north of the old stockyards, this working-class neighborhood’s plentiful land and warehouses ripe for conversions have spurred a recent wave of development and given rise to a bustling arts district. Most notable is tony Bridgeport Village, set smack-dab on a stretch of the Chicago River known as Bubbly Creek, so-named for its gaseous stew made from the animal carcasses dumped in it by the former stockyards. Its banks now boast pricey homes, but the bubbles still linger.
