Underneath the sleek mask
of cool and nonchalance
we are all tender-hearted
victims of the unforgiveable
each with a
somebody-done-
me-wrong song.
We drag around ropes of anger
we are always in danger
of tripping over
or hanging from.
Forgive, the Bible tells us
and we think, Sure!
That’s easy for you to say!
But hey
the Omnipotent One
knows exactly
how impossibly painful
forgiveness is
which is why he offers
to do the hard part for us.
Joshua shows him
rolling away
the disgrace of Egypt
as only the Almighty could
just as he would roll away
any unspeakable crime
done against us.
No sin is too heavy
for the father to roll away.
The prodigal son’s brother
forgot that
and who could blame him?
He had earned the right
to his anger
and wasn’t ready for
the power of forgiveness
to take it all away.
Are we?
