The shared burden
of the everyday
may sound like a fairy tale
but the early disciples
lived that story.
Houses, furnishings
and goods in common
they chased God
instead of things
finding time left over
to meet the needs of those
around them.
Wrestling on their knees
in corporate prayer
little wonder
their community
routinely experienced
the miraculous—
though no miracle
is ever truly routine.
What are we missing,
we relatively affluent?
Can any of our goods
ever equal God’s?
Maybe it’s time to
review our possessions
remind ourselves
who owns them
spend more time together
in prayer
and spread around
whatever wealth
we have on loan.
