Aslan

He is not like us.

We fear forgetfulness

run from the devastation

that it can be

while he chooses

selective memory

a grace he bestows on us

to remember our sins no more.

He is not like us.

We prattle on about

promises, promises

proclaiming our cynicism

with every know-it-all sneer.

But the Redeemer’s

unbreakable promises

are sealed in blood

wrapped with wonder

and tied with bows of blessings

to be unfurled

each day tomorrow brings.

He is not like us.

We cling to the familiarity

of past failures

while he flings our

broken vows away

offering instead

a fresh covenant:

His love and faithfulness

his law tattooed on

the tablet of our hearts

his presence as palpable

as our pulse.

True to the word in Jeremiah

he makes us his habitation.

Praise him who is in us, now!

But remember:

He is not like us.

Amen? Amen.

Jeremiah 31:27–34
