THE HORROR
Investigator Gary Bell came into the office, sat down, and attempted to ask Bissell a few questions, to no avail. The big, blood-covered man slouched in his chair and stared at the walls in front of him, ignoring Bell. He refused to respond to Bell in any way and didn’t look around the room or make a sound.
Another officer began to take photographs that he knew would be needed in the course of the investigation. He asked his deputy to remove the material from Bissell’s pocket while he took pictures. The deputy carefully put on a pair of exam gloves. The first item he pulled from the pocket was a bloody $5 bill, the only money that would be found on Bissell and apparently the only cash he had left. The other item in the pocket, the mass of bloody tissue that the officers had discovered earlier and thought might have been a finger, now appeared to be a human esophagus, approximately six inches long.
