Portolani During This Period

The early 17th century explorers of the New World including de Champlain, Hudson, and Baffin, and the explorers of the Pacific including Tasman, created and had available to them maps (similar to Maps on p. 114-156) that were beginning to look like our own present day ones. Explorers of the 17th century including Marquette and Dampier could have known of maps (such as Maps on p. 160-172, 176-212, 216-218 and 222) that included a considerable quantity of authenticated data, reflecting the centuries of navigation prior to them.
