Modern Explorers: American Explorers

 

Once the dust settled after the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783), the next generation of Americans was eager to explore its new land and other horizons. It was as if they had to rush to catch up with centuries of discoveries and achievements already enjoyed by the rest of the world.

Looking through the list of the forty eight major American explorers who lived during the 18th and 19th centuries, we see that twenty seven of them would spend their energies on exploring the land that was, or would eventually be, their own country.
