Some places can be really hot in the summer and reach temperatures of over 100 degrees. Very hot weather can raise your body temperature. High temperatures often cause people to sweat and lose the water their bodies need. This is called dehydration.

Dehydration puts you in danger of a heat stroke. Heat strokes can be deadly! When we went back in time to the Civil War, we helped a drummer boy who was weak from heat stroke.

In very hot weather, we dress in light clothes that reflect heat away from our bodies, and we always wear hats. We drink a lot of water, especially when we exercise. It’s smart to drink more than you think you need.

We never exercise outside during the hottest time of the day. We know the signs of heat stroke—dizziness, hot red skin, and no sweating. If we ever felt those symptoms, we’d head for a cool place right away and tell an adult. Not preparing for super-hot weather is not cool!
