If there was no gravity, we’d all float off into space. Gravity is the force that keeps everything on the ground. We had a great journey to the moon and found out what it was like to live with very little gravity.
In low gravity, your body feels as if it weighs much less. If you weigh sixty pounds on earth, you’ll weigh ten pounds on the moon.
Pushing off from something makes you bounce around like a ball in slow motion! Your brain keeps on telling you that you’re falling, but you never do. Instead, you just float around and feel relaxed all the time.
Astronauts in space have to survive with no gravity at all. Washing, eating, and drinking can be a problem. In zero gravity, special containers keep everything from floating away.
When astronauts eat, they attach their food to their trays and need straws to drink. Astronauts also say that they can’t smell or taste their food. With no gravity, smells just float away.
Even with all the problems of living with no gravity, it’s still a lot of fun. Astronaut Sally Ride said it was the best time she ever had in her life!
