Gratitude

image

On two different occasions last year, people asked me how I “come up with ideas” for my fiction.

I don’t know the answer. I know an image pops in here, a thread stitches up with another over there, and an emotion tangles in the yonder weeds before it whirls around, overwhelming everything. One day a writer opens her eyes, and a story begins.

Creativity only comes from interaction, supportive interaction. I am blessed to have the best support around me. When I’m down, when I’m struggling, the people in my life give encouragement. They talk ideas, engage in interesting activities, and offer opportunities for experiences that open the doors for threads to float in through windows and for emotions to squirm and worm out of shadowed corners.

Here's to my support circle.

May the road rise to meet you; May the wind be always at your back.

(from the Irish blessing)
