How can each time you fall in love seem like the first time? That’s part of the magic. Each time it’s exciting, fresh and new. The song that Solomon wrote to celebrate love can help you realize that God isn’t a prude, frowning at you when your heart beats faster. It can also help you realize that when Hollywood tries to tell you it’s all just sex, Hollywood is dead wrong. Solomon is right: that “Look, here he [or she] comes” that sets your heart beating faster is something special you can enjoy no matter what your age.
Romance is a pretty special thing. You know, those feelings that grow as you get to know a special person.
Song of Songs gives you a preview of what romance is all about. The woman talks about being “faint with love,” and the man talks about how beautiful and wonderful she is (Song of Songs 5:8; 6:4).
Some teens miss out on romantic love altogether. They confuse romantic love with sex and think that having sex is love. They never realize that sex can spoil their chances to find lasting romantic love.
Don’t make that mistake. Read Song of Songs to discover how special romantic love can be. If you want that kind of love, you’ll be wise enough to wait for it.
Someday you’ll stop falling in love with someone new every month. Someday love will last for weeks and months and stretch on into years. When that lasting love comes—a love “as strong as death,” a love “many waters cannot quench”—then you’ll know you’ve found the right one. Then love will lead you to the commitment of marriage. You’ll want to be with that one person for the rest of your life. Don’t get “being in love” mixed up with “lasting love.” It’s so tempting to think the guy you met last week is “the one.” But you can’t tell until being “in love” has stood the test of time and become “lasting love.”
