I spend a lot of time getting all my homework done. I let one guy copy one day and now it’s every day. I’m sick of it but I don’t know how to get out of this. What can I do?
Evan
Dear Evan,
It’s just like in the book Habakkuk. When people do something they shouldn’t, instead of being satisfied, they want more (Habakkuk 2:5). You tried to help out a friend in need, although, not in a wise way. Instead of being grateful and doing a better job of preparing for class, he began to use you. You probably know by now he wasn’t much of a friend.
Perhaps you could tell him you are willing to tutor him if he needs some help but that you don’t feel comfortable letting him copy anymore. Since you don’t want to bring on more trouble for yourself, don’t call him a cheater. Instead you could say, “I feel like I’m cheating, and it really bothers me.”
You may find it helpful to avoid being in the usual place where he gets the work from you if it’s possible.

For most people, family means security. Parents supply food and clothing and housing as well as love and support. But what happens if Dad loses his job? Or if Mom and Dad divorce? Or if a parent dies? Suddenly your whole future is in doubt. Look what happened to Habakkuk. God warned him that a terrible judgment was about to strike his homeland. Habakkuk was frightened (Habakkuk 3:16). But he came to realize that it isn’t peace or prosperity that provides security: it’s the Lord (Habakkuk 3:18–19). No matter how uncertain your future is, God can be your strength, today and tomorrow.

Life Isn’t Fair.
It looked to Habakkuk like the bad guys were winning. But success wouldn’t make them happy. Only God could and they didn’t have that.
