According to Jude, a false teacher isn’t the history teacher who promises you an essay test and then gives you multiple choice. False teachers are “ungodly people” (Jude 4) who look and sound religious but who lead you away instead of toward Jesus. Jude describes these false teachers and then gives instruction on how to avoid them (Jude 20–23):
• Build your faith. Count on what the Bible says, not on what false teachers teach.
• Pray in the Spirit. Let God’s Spirit guide you.
• Keep yourself in God’s love.
Stick to doing right while you’re waiting for Jesus to come back. And be concerned about others. Do everything you can to help them get to know and love the Lord.

I’m Serious!
Watch out for false teachers! Three New Testament books have this same message, one worth repeating.
