A Note on the text

Editing a collection of ‘occasional writing’ can be a complex process. In the case of Jonathan Miller, his work cuts across print, radio, television and the podium, and survives in the form of transcripts, recordings and versions edited for print, subject to myriad house styles and the use of either UK or US English. The mission with One Thing and Another was to select the most representative and entertaining range of material and to provide the reader with a consistent text. This has prompted many minor adjustments and occasional amendments to source material, none of which infringe on Miller’s original intentions. Any significant corrections are acknowledged in the Notes, where full credits for source material – including quotations – can also be found.
