Logan picked him up off the ground with such ease, even as Billy kicked and wiggled, desperately trying to break free. He carried him over the concrete slope under the bridge. In the middle was a small alcove. He threw the guy in there and stood in the way.

There was no escaping him here.

“You’re going to give me everything you have on the killer right now.”

Billy shook his head and flipped the bird once more.

Logan didn’t hesitate. He launched a deadly punch right into his stomach. Billy made a winded, squeaking sound and doubled over, slowly slinking toward the ground. “Let’s try that again, and let me remind you that one of those comes free with every question you refuse to answer. Now, let’s take it from the top.”

“I don’t know anything,” Billy wheezed.

“Then let’s start with what you do know.”

“Like what?”

“Why did you tell the cops Maggie was in on your plan?”

“Seemed like a good idea at the time. The bitch would have moved on sooner or later. When she found out I was involved in what happened to her sister, don’t you think she would have found another guy? Well, she can’t do that in jail.”

“So you did it out of jealousy?”

“Naw, preventative measures, man. You’re probably screwing her, too.”

Logan lashed forward, striking the wall beside him. It put the fear of God into Billy, who screamed like a little old lady once more. “Maggie got out and is no longer a suspect, so you failed just like you failed everything else in life.”

“You say that, but I got out, too.”

“I wouldn’t boast about your freedom just yet.”

“What’s that supposed to mean.”

“It means I can still put you in the ground. Where’s the killer?”

“No idea.”

“What are you doing down here, then? Isn’t this where you meet the guy?”

“The first time I met him, yeah. I’m just here to buy a little fun.”

Logan remembered the bag he’d been carrying, looked for it on the ground, then realized Billy must have dropped it. Drugs, probably, and that made sense. Billy wasn’t exactly a straight shooter, if his recent activity was anything to go by.

“Can you contact him?”

Billy shook his head. “No way.”

“Then how do you plan to see him again?”

“I don’t. He’s gone forever now. Chances are, he’s taken that little freak of yours and is cutting her up in some shed.” Billy laughed, finally catching his breath. “And you know what? I hope he carves her up nice and slow so she can feel every little bit of it.”

Logan gave everything he had to not snap this guy’s neck then and there. The cruel comment was one thing, but the weasel-like chuckle that followed worked its way into his bones. He was getting nowhere, tension wiring his body as time went on. With each passing minute, Billy might get his wish. Jenny could turn up dead any second now.

It was time to try something else.

“You had your chance,” he said, pulling Billy up. “Now we’ll do it my way.”
