Chapter 3

Charmaine

“You better not be laid up at no hoes house.” I said into Brick’s voice mail. For the umpteenth time, I called Brick’s cell only to get the voicemail like he had his phone turned off.

I couldn’t believe that he thought that I would be ok with him leaving the house at 4 in the morning. It was now after 12pm and this nigga had the audacity to not come back home. He really had me fucked up.

I knew I was wrong for fucking with Brick. But after everything happened, I sort of fell in love with him. He was the total package. Tall, dark, handsome, and rich. He was everything a girl needed and wanted. It didn’t matter to me that he didn’t love me, because he had money. I needed money not love.

The only thing I hated about him not loving me, was the fact that he was in love with my ex best friend. I understand that they’re married, but he needs to get over that. Married people separate and divorce all the time.

There was a point in time when Kiana and I were inseparable. Her mother, who I refer to as Aunt Avalon, took legal custody of me when I was only five-years-old. She and my mother Vicky were best friends and she stepped in and took care of me when my mother fell short.

I loved them and felt connected to them in a way that I couldn’t understand. There was never a time when I felt adopted or out of place with them. Aunt Avalon made sure both Kiana and I had the best of everything. Even though she was a church going God Fearing woman, she loved to gamble.

When she got lucky and won over $50,000. She put $10,000 a piece in an investment and trust account for Kiana and I to collect when we turned eighteen-years-old.

Even though I had everything I could ever ask for. I didn’t have my own mother. Seeing how close Kiana and Aunt Avalon were made me resent her.

Yeah, I know it’s foolish. But, it’s the truth. Kiana and her mom talked about any and everything. The last conversation, I had with my mother was so grim that it made me hate her dope fiend ass.

“Vicky, who is my father? All my friends have dads, but I don’t. Who is he?” I asked.

I was fucked up. I didn’t even know my own nationality. If I didn’t know who my mother was, I wouldn’t have known that I was black. Vicky had fucked my life up before I was even born.

“Goddamn Charmaine. Why are you asking about that bullshit again? I’m getting tired of having the same dead-end conversation with your ass.

All your friends do not have fathers. Kiana’s dad took off years ago. You don’t see her worrying about that nigga. Why the fuck is you worrying about yours?” Vicky asked pulling on a Newport.

I could see the irritation on her face, but I couldn’t understand why me wanting to know about my father would upset her so badly.

“Her dad took off, but at least she knew him. She’s not asking about her dad because she has Aunt Avalon. Can you please just talk to me Vicky? I don’t know anything about my father. It’s obvious that I’m biracial. Is my dad White, Asian, Hispanic or something else?” I asked.

“When you find out if you’re white, Asian, Hispanic or something else be sure and let me know. Charmaine look, the fact is I don’t know who your father is. Back then I was with so many men looking for love.

Your father could be White, Asian, or Hispanic. You have more Hispanic features than Asian or White. So, I’m assuming your dad is one of the Puerto Rican or Mexican men that I tricked with. I was raped too, so maybe it was him. I don’t know. I wish I could help more.” Vicky said callously.

Her words were so cold and abrasive that after that conversation, I made it my business to never speak with her dope fiend ass ever again. I hated to admit it, but I was jealous of Kiana. Even though I was jealous, I wasn’t a hater. Kiana was very pretty, but I was ten times prettier than her. I was about 5’8”, thick, light skinned, with hazel eyes and long wavy hair.

Kiana’s hair grew long too, but she cut it all off and was rocking a flawless edgy Pixie Cut. She had confidence that was out of this world. With a brain as big as her ass. She went to college and received her master’s and was making money moves ever since.

Because of the money that Aunt Avalon left me, I didn’t think I needed an education beyond high school. I was confident that the money was all I needed. I was stupid and naïve to believe that.

The $10,000 had collected so much interest that I figured I’d be set for a long time. I was wrong. I ran through that money so quick, that it was like I never received any money at all. Because of my irresponsible decisions and Kiana’s smart ones, I felt like she was trying to outshine me. So, I needed to knock her down a few notches.

When she and Flex hooked up, I made it my business to make him notice me. It was a snake move I admit that. But to be fair, I saw the looks Flex would give me when I came over to their place. So, when I presented the opportunity, he took it.

Even though I knew we were wrong, I didn’t care. I just wanted someone that would choose me over her. I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with Flex, and I wasn’t trying to get pregnant by him. I just liked the idea of knowing something she didn’t.

When she found out and beat our ass, I vowed to get her back. Yeah, I was wrong for doing her the way that I did. But she didn’t have to do me like that. She didn’t have to beat me like I stole something. If he was truly that in love with her and committed to her, he would’ve never fucked me.

I hadn’t seen her in eight years, but when I found out she was married to Clifton Brick, the largest Cocaine and Heroin supplier on the East Coast. I knew it was time for me to get my payback for her breaking my nose.

“Baby, you’ll never guess who I’m looking at right now.” I said excitedly into the phone.

“Who?” Flex asked. He sounded like he wasn’t interested and only asked to appease me.

“Kiana.”

“Kiana? Kiana Bradshaw?” He asked.  I couldn’t see him. But I could tell that he sat up straight as a board when he heard his ex’s name. I looked at the phone and rolled my eyes as he continued to fire off questions.

“How does she look? Is she still beautiful?” Flex asked. I could hear the excitement in his voice when I mentioned her. The two of them had been friends their whole life, until I threw the pussy on him and fucked their relationship up.

He never missed an opportunity to remind me that it was my fault they broke up. But somehow, he always forgot to mention that he was seeking my attention. He somehow forgot that it was him eating my pussy or fucking me hard and fast while she was home and in the shower.

“She looks the same.” I said as I rolled my eyes again. Hating that after all these years he still wanted her.

“Go talk to her. I heard she can make all money look like legit money. On top of that, I need to get put on with her husband. Maybe he could be an investor for the restaurant.” He said.

I frowned when he said, ‘he heard.’ That told me that he had been inquiring about his ex.

“She’s married? Who did she marry?” I asked disinterested. It irritated me that he had been keeping tabs on her after all these years.

“That nigga Clifton Brick.”

At the mention of Clifton Brick, I almost busted a nut all over myself.

“How did she land that nigga?” I thought to myself. I was beyond pissed that she ended up with a man like him. Though Flex was very attractive, if he were to stand next to Clifton Brick, Flex would look like a bum on the street.

“I’ll call you back.” I said as I hung up and sped walked to where she was. As soon as I got up to her, I poured on the charm.

“Hey Kiana. Long time no see.” I said. She looked at me like she couldn’t believe her eyes.

“Charmaine?” She asked skeptically.

“Yeah it’s me. I wanted to speak with you for a moment. If that’s ok with you.” I said. She looked hesitant, but eventually I got her to sit and talk with me.

“So, what is it that you wanna talk about?” Kiana asked.

“I ran into Flex a few months ago and he wanted to know if you and I ever reconnected. He really needs your assistance. Kiana, I know you don’t owe he and I any favors. But if you can assist him. Jayden and I would greatly appreciate it.

For the past few years it’s been a struggle trying to raise a little man with no assistance from his father. He’s trying to do the right thing now. Please Kiana. Is there any way you could reach out to him?” I asked. I knew mentioning Jayden would appeal to her softer side.

“I don’t have any animosity towards you or Flex. But your well-being really isn’t any of my concern. With that being said, I’m not willing to do this for the two of you. But I will do it for Jayden. If he can’t make the appointment then, he’s up shits creek.” She said as she handed me a napkin with the location and time where he could meet her.

“He only has the one chance to speak with me. Make sure he knows not to be late.” She said as she got up from the table and walked off.

“Thanks Bitch.” I said to myself as she walked off. Even though she wasn’t flashy, Kiana looked like money and that pissed me off. It was time for me to knock her off her square.

I knew what I had to do. The moment she and Flex got to the restaurant, I’d be there to take pictures of the two of them in the cozy environment.

The note on the napkin, pictures in an intimate setting, along with a transcript of the fake text messages that I was going to create would have Brick eating out the palm of my hand. As soon as the opportunity presented itself, I took it.

“Excuse me. My name is Charmaine Valley. May I speak with you for a minute?” I said as I walked up to Brick while he was getting into his Gunmetal Range Rover. I knew the tears that were in my eyes would make what I was about to say more believable.

“How can I help you?” Brick said as he placed his hands in his pocket and stared at me. He smelled so damn good and looked even better. I had to have him and by the way he was looking at me, I knew he wanted me too.

“You and I have never met, but you’re married to my former best friend, Kiana. Years ago she and I had a falling out. Back then it was my fault. I started dating her boyfriend behind her back, but we were kids then. Since then, I’ve married Felix, or Flex as we call him.

Long story short, we’ve been having some problems in our marriage. I confronted him about cheating, and he denied it. Since I didn’t believe him. I hired a private investigator and found out that there was another woman. Kiana.” I said and broke completely down in front of him.

Brick looked at me like he knew I was lying. He sighed as if I had just wasted his valuable time with my sob story.

“Mrs. Valley, I don’t know you personally. But I know who you were to my wife back in the day. I know my wife and being a side bitch isn’t anything she’d do. She has too much class for that. An unfaithful wife is not something that I’ll ever have to worry about. If she was with Flex, I know for a fact that it wasn’t anything sexual. Take care Mrs. Valley.” Brick said preparing to walk off. If he thought I was letting him walk off that easy he had the game fucked up.

“I figured you’d say that. I was shocked too. Here’s everything I got from the investigator. My husband blames me for his cheating. He said if I didn’t interfere all those years ago, that he and Kiana would still be together. See for yourself.” I said as I handed Brick the pictures, text messages from the spoofing app, and the napkin from her daughter’s daycare that she wrote her number, the location, and time where Flex could meet her. I made sure I put the napkin from the daycare on top of the pile for good measure.

The look on Brick’s face was murder. He gritted his teeth and clinched his jaw as he looked at everything that was in front of him. I couldn’t blame him, because even though I had set the whole thing up, it made me sick to my stomach to see the way that Flex fawned over Kiana.

The way he smiled in her face, brushed away invisible lint, or tried to touch her face and feed her, pissed me off. Even though she checked him, and told him to keep his hands to himself, Brick didn’t know that, and I wasn’t going to tell him.

“If I need to speak with you, how can I reach you?” He asked.

“You can call or text me at 904-555-6650. Look, I don’t wanna see her. I just want her to know, she can’t have what’s mine. We’re not kids anymore and I’m not trying to lose my family behind something that happened nearly ten years ago.” I said as I walked off and smiled. Leaving him standing alone.

I thought he had dismissed my claim but three weeks after the day I spoke to him. My phone notified me that I had just received a text.

To:904-555-6650 From:904-555-2211 Charmaine, this is Brick. Are you available today? I need to talk to you.

To: 904-555-2211 From:904-555-6650 Yes, I am. What time and where?

To: 904-555-6650 From:904-555-2211 My house at 4pm. 2369 Royal Parrish.

Reading the messages put a smile on my face. Since my son was spending the week with his father, I wasted no time getting showered and dressed. I was about to put something on Brick that he never had before.

Getting in my Toyota Camry, I headed to the richest and most exclusive section in the city. I never thought that I would ever have a reason to go to Royal Parrish. I drove with a smile the whole way there.

As soon I pulled up to the large white house, that appeared to be three stories. I felt my pussy getting wet. Calling Brick, I let him know that I was outside.

“The door is open.” He said. I wasted no time getting out of my car and walking into Brick and Kiana’s home. As soon as I walked in, I was immediately pissed off. Brick had Kiana living like a queen.

The image that greeted me when I walked in their home was a floor to ceiling mural of her in a white wedding dress and him in a grey suit. Seeing how beautiful she was and how happy she looked, made me want to take a knife to the portrait.

“I surprised her with that mural on our one-year wedding anniversary. I wanted Kiana, from the first time I saw her. In our seven years of marriage, I never thought my wife would cheat on me. I give her everything. I never thought about cheating on her, because she gave me everything.” Brick said standing beside me with a snifter of cognac. He startled me because I hadn’t heard him walking up.

“I know Kiana doesn’t really want Flex. She just wants to hurt me like I hurt her. Even Flex knows it, but he’s willing to take whatever she gives him. Look, I wasn’t trying to hurt you by giving you the truth. I just want her to leave my man alone. I wouldn’t try her husband.” I lied. If Brick made a move on me, I was definitely going to allow it. Unlike Kiana, I didn’t have a husband to worry about.

“Why not? Why wouldn’t you try her husband after she had yours? I remember the day she fought the two of you outside of LaShay’s. You mean to tell me, you don’t want any payback for the ass whooping she put on y’all, or the hurt she’s recently caused?” Brick asked jumping straight to the point.

“Brick. I understand your pain. But you don’t want to do something you’ll regret based on emotion. I just want her to stay away-”

Before I could complete my lie, Brick had his tongue down my throat. I could taste the robust flavor of the Remy Martin Louis XIII Cognac on his tongue and I didn’t fight him.

Sliding my dress straps down my shoulders. Brick dropped his mouth to my hard nipples and ran his tongue over them. The warmth of his mouth and the skill of his tongue nearly made my knees buckle.

“Get on the couch.” He said with no emotion as he pulled a dick as big as a Louisville Slugger out of his slacks.

“Ok.” I said eagerly. Without being told to do so, I took as much of him into my mouth as possible.

“Ahhh.” He moaned lightly as he grabbed my long hair and fucked my mouth with hard aggressive strokes. It was obvious by each stroke into my mouth that his heart was breaking. But I didn’t care.

“Get on the chair arm.” He said as he pulled out of my mouth.

“Aren’t you going to return the favor?” I asked. Hoping he would suck on my pussy. I had fantasized about his lips several times in the past and after sucking his tongue earlier. I couldn’t wait to have his tongue sliding up and down my clit.

“Nah.” Was all he said as he rolled the magnum condom on his rock-hard dick and slid into me. He didn’t even make eye contact with me when he spoke.

“Ahhh!!” I screamed as Brick damn near busted me open with his hard strokes. He showed no mercy as he grabbed me by my throat and slammed into me. His moans were so loud that if someone was outside, I’m sure they would’ve heard the loud moaning and screaming.

“I’m  gonna cum in your face.” He growled as he fucked me so hard that it became uncomfortable. I knew for a fact that he would never fuck Kiana this way. He was punishing me for destroying his marriage.

“Ooohhh God!! Oh God!!”

“You ready for this nut? Here it...”

“What the fuck?”

We both stopped at the sound of Kiana’s voice from the doorway. My heart stopped when I saw her standing as still as a statue in a form fitting hunter green dress and dark brown snake skinned heels.

I wanted to fuck Brick, but I didn’t want her to walk in and catch us. I didn’t say a word, but Brick made it his business to throw salt in her wound. He continued to fuck me in front of her until he busted his nut. Brick fucked me so hard that I knew my cervix was bruised. I couldn’t even imagine the devastation on her face seeing her husband cumming in another woman.

An evil smirk covered his face after he finished filling the condom with his seed. It was as if he knew that he had devastated her soul, the same way his now was.

“Cat got your tongue?” Brick said angrily as he pulled his hard dick out of me. His dick was so hard that it looked like it would never go down. Even though I was in pain, knowing that Kiana was devastated had me so wet my cum dripped from the outside of the condom.

“What? I...” Kiana said. She couldn’t even get her words out because she was stunned and speechless.

“Bitch you thought you could play me. You thought you could fuck that nigga Flex behind my back and get away with it. I rescued your ass from the humiliation, and you turn around and spread your legs for that nigga. Pay backs a bitch. You should’ve never fucked around on me. Go back to that nigga. Get your shit and get the fuck out of my house.” Brick said.

This nigga was bold, because the whole time he was talking shit. He never put his dick back in his pants. I guess it was his way of taunting and disrespecting her.

“What?” She asked. It was like hearing Flex’s name pulled her out of the trance that seeing her husband fucking another woman had put her in.

Without saying a word. Brick reached on the coffee table and threw the pictures of her and Flex at a table in a restaurant, text message transcripts, and the napkin she wrote her number on at her feet.

When she looked down and saw what Brick had thrown at her feet, the laugh that came from her mouth was so maniacal that it caused both Brick and I to stiffen. It was obvious that Brick had heard that crazed laugh of hers before, because he hurriedly stuffed himself in his pants and took on a confused and uncertain look, like he knew he had fucked up.

“This bitch set me up.” She said as she smiled a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. I was shitting bricks. But I played it cool and placed a look of pure pleasure on my face.

Brick stared at her with pleading eyes, but she refused to address him. Kiana wasn’t the cheating type, and I’m sure she never gave him a reason to step out on her. But he did.

Instead of speaking, she went into her briefcase and pulled out a green envelope and threw it at Brick’s feet, the same way he threw the false documents I created at hers.

“I wonder what’s in that envelope?” I asked myself because at the sight of it, Brick looked like he was ready to burst into tears.

“Ki. Baby, let me explain. When I saw the pictures, it looked like more than business. Baby, we can act like this never happened.” Brick said. This nigga was pleading with Kiana like he was a bitch.

But she never responded to him. She ignored him and addressed me.

“So, you stalked me. Just to sell me a sad story, so you could get me and Flex in the same room. You did all that, so you could have someone take pictures? You went through all of that, so you could fuck my husband? Looks like your plan worked. You got him.” Kiana said as she walked up to me. I was so afraid that I couldn’t sit still. But I refused to show fear.

“You should’ve never put your hands on me back then. You...”

Before I could finish speaking. Kiana slammed her fist into my face so hard that I heard when her knuckles cracked. She was relentless. Even with a broken hand she was still going for broke on me.

“Fuck that uppity bitch.” I said to myself as flashbacks of Kiana’s and I’s last encounter replayed in my head. She did all that fighting, and I still ended up with her man. Looking at my phone again, I was furious. It was now 12:15pm and this nigga was nowhere to be found. Calling his phone again for the umpteenth time, I listened to the generic automated voicemail.

“The person you’re calling is unavailable. Please leave a message at the beep. BEEP!”

“Brick, where the fuck are you that you can’t answer your phone? You are so disrespectful. If I find out you’re with a bitch I will be fucking both of y’all up on site.” I said into the voicemail.

As soon as I hung up, my phone rang causing my shoulder to tense up immediately. I could taste the curse words that were about to spew from my lips. Without checking the caller id, I answered the phone and let Brick have it.

“Nigga, did you think you could just leave home at 4am without telling me where the fuck you were going? Are you fucking serious? Where the fuck are you Brick?” I screamed into the phone. So angry that I started to shake.

“Yo. You’re really losing your mind. You know you’re not that nigga’s Ol’lady right?” Flex said into the phone catching me completely off guard. If I knew it was him that was calling, I wouldn’t have answered the phone.

“What do you want?” I asked with major attitude. Hearing anything from him that wasn’t about money or our son was pointless. It was crazy that I threw pussy at Flex freely when he and Kiana were dating. But, as soon as I had him to myself, I didn’t want him.

“I wanna know why you keep acting like you don’t know that nigga is married and is probably trying to get his wife back. Kiana is one hell of a woman. Getting over her ain’t easy.” Flex said. He loved to point out that Kiana was always his first choice and that I was only good enough to get her sloppy seconds.

“So, what the fuck are you trying to say? Are you trying to say that that lame bitch is better than me?” I asked.

“All I’m trying to say is you’re in a competition with a person that’s not even competing. Kiana knows her worth. She knows that she’s more thorough than a pimp’s bottom bitch. She doesn’t have to compete, she’s automatically number one.

Instead of you going against her, you should’ve stayed her best friend. Brick don’t want your damaged ass. A woman like you, is bad for business. You ain’t shit Charmaine. You’re just a pretty face with a nice body.” Flex said causing tears to come to my eyes.

This nigga really knew how to hit me where it hurts. Especially when he found out what I had done. After the little trick I pulled showing Brick the pictures.

Kiana thought he was in on the setup and refused to do business with him. He had given her $200,000 to clean, and after what I did, she refused to give him the money back. She told him if he ever contacted her again, she’d put a bullet in his forehead. He was now back to being flat broke, after that he was through fucking with me.

“Why the fuck did you call me Felix? You ain’t talking about nothing that I wanna hear. So, I’m about to hang up on your stupid ass.” I said. He was starting to get under my skin with all the jaw jacking he was doing.

“I just wanted you to know that Jayden is spending another night with me. I’ll take him to school in the morning. You can pick him up from there. I’m starting to think he’ll be better off staying with me and Yvette because you’re too busy running behind niggas that don’t even like your stupid ass to pay your own son any attention. Take care.” Flex said about to hang up.

“Wait Flex.” I said stopping him before he disconnected the call.

“What?” He asked sounding very aggravated and agitated.

“What makes her so much better than me?” I asked as I felt my chest tighten and eyes water. He sighed like he really didn’t want to answer the question.

“What do you want me to say Charmaine? You already know what I’m going to say because I’ve been saying it for years. All the conniving shit you did, Kiana would never do. She’s too much of a lady.

You’re jealous of Kiana. You’ve always been. When Kennedy died, you were so mad that everyone was paying Kiana attention, that you started hollering just so everyone could look at you. Vicky really fucked you up.

Let’s be real Charmaine. You never wanted me. You only wanted me because Kiana had me. You don’t want Brick. You want him because he’s her husband. You’ve somehow convinced yourself that whatever Kiana has, should be yours.

I was wrong for accepting the pussy, but I did and there’s nothing I can do to change that. Her and Ms. Avalon, were nothing but good to you and you disrespected the whole family.” Flex said making me feel like shit.

“Whatever Flex. I don’t hear you talking that shit when you’re balls deep in my pussy.” I said as I wiped the tears that dripped down my face.

“That’s what I’m trying to get you to understand, Charmaine. It’s just pussy. That’s it. If a woman only has pussy to offer a man, she doesn’t have much to offer. Kiana, on the other hand, brings more to the table than sex appeal and bomb ass pussy. She’s...”

I hung up the phone on Flex’s dumbass. He was so busy praising this hoe that he forgot that she whooped his ass too.

“Fuck you and fuck her.” I said aloud as I logged into Brick’s Verizon app and checked the location where his phone was last used.

“Bingo!!” I said. The last location where his phone was used was in Whispering Meadows. That community was extremely high class, but it had nothing on the gated community that Brick lived in.

Throwing on a pair of leggings and a Bob Marley T-shirt, I grabbed my keys and my phone and headed out the door. I was determined to make Brick see that he was my man. I was tired of the late-night calls that he received. Him leaving without talking to me, and basically ignoring me like I wasn’t even there.

I was tired of it all. I deserved the same respect that he gave Kiana. Getting in my Toyota, I drove to the community that resembled high-class country living. The whole time I was driving, all I could think about was Kiana having better advantages in life than I did.

She was always good in Math and Science. She chose to go to college, knowing that I wasn’t college material. She began working for herself knowing that I wasn’t interested in the type of work she did.

I felt like if she was truly a friend, she would’ve done things that I was also good at, that way she and I could work together. But instead she chose to do things that excluded me. If she and I were really friends, she would’ve never done that.

“Why the fuck would Brick be out here?” I asked myself as I looked at the large homes with orange trees in the front yard. This community was so different from what I was used too. There was more privacy.

Houses weren’t side by side. Instead, the homes had large front and backyards, white picket fences, and the ‘raising a family’ vibe. I was only 30 minutes away from Brick’s home, yet it felt so far away.

“It’s so peaceful out here.” I said as I drove down the street slowly, admiring all the big beautiful homes. These homes were a few sizes smaller than Bricks home. But they were still large enough to live in comfortably.

“Whose fucking house is this?” I screamed as I saw Bricks Gunmetal Range Rover parked in the front of a beautiful 2-story red brick home. This house was gorgeous, with its large white pillars, black shutters and matching black door.

The doors to the 2-car garage were down, so I couldn’t see if there were other cars here. All I knew for sure was this was Bricks car parked in front of it. I wondered if this was one of Brick’s rental properties.

“There’s only one way to find out?” I said as I got out of my car and walked up the 5 steps that led to the front door. I put my ear to the front door and listened for movement, but I couldn’t hear anything. I tried to look through the windows, but I couldn’t see anything.

“Fuck this.” I said as I beat on the door like I had a warrant for Brick’s arrest.

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

BRICK!! OPEN THIS FUCKING DOOR!!”

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

BRICK OPEN THIS DOOR! YOU LEFT HOME AROUND 4AM AND THOUGHT I WOULD BE OK WITH THAT! THIS BETTER NOT BE A BITCHES HOUSE!!”

I knocked on the door so hard that I felt my hand swelling. I wanted whoever lived here to know that Brick had someone in his life. And they couldn’t have my man.

As soon as I raised my hand to knock again. The door was opened with so much force, that I could hear when the pictures fell onto the floor from the door being swung open so hard.

My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I saw Kiana standing at the door with a gun in her hand. I never even stopped to think that this could be Kiana’s house. She never liked country living or being far away from the action of the city.

To say that I was shocked that she opened the door, was an understatement. And the fact that she had a gun pointed at my head. Had me ready to run back to my car. I was frozen with fear and I couldn’t say a word.

“Why is she at my house Brick? Why the fuck is this bitch at my house asking for you?” She asked as tears ran down her face.

“Kiana...” was all Brick could say. He looked more terrified than I was. Her aim was steady. I knew that Kiana carried a gun, but I never thought that she would ever pull it out on me.

“I’m here because he left me home alone.” I said as I rubbed my basketball shaped belly. It didn’t matter to me that she was holding a gun on me. I wasn’t leaving here without my baby daddy.

“Brick, I’ma ask you one more motherfucking time. Why the fuck is Charmaine at my house asking for you? How does this bitch even know where the fuck I rest my head?” Kiana asked Brick. The calm way in which she spoke had me scared as fuck. So scared that I knew it was probably in my best interest to leave.

“Kiana. Baby. I’m not fucking with this bitch. I mean, I fucked her a couple of times after you left, but it ain’t mean shit. I was just lonely and depressed.” Brick said talking about me like I wasn’t standing in front of him.

“This bitch is standing in front of me with a stomach as big as a damn house. I asked you if you were still fucking her and you looked me dead in my eyes and said no. You put a baby in this bitch, then brought your dirty ass over here and fucked me raw. Is this baby yours?” Kiana asked through gritted teeth.

Tears flowed down her face and I kinda felt bad. Even as kids, I never liked to see her cry. But I didn’t move or say a word because she had moved the gun from my head down to my stomach.

“Baby, I’m not going to lie to you. I know I was wrong, but I did fuck her twice. Six months ago. Last night she came by and gave me and Rahlo some head and that was it. She fell asleep at the foot of my bed and I left and came here. Come on Key Key Bear, we’re better than this. I love you so much Kiana. I swear I’m so sorry.” Brick said as he placed his hands on both sides of her face and stared into her eyes. He spoke as if he was full of remorse. I could literally hear the tears in his voice.

The way that he spoke about me made me sick to my stomach. He spoke like I was nothing. Yeah, I topped him and his friend off, but they paid me to do it. What was I supposed to do, turn the money down? I don’t think so. He used the nickname that her mother called her, hoping to sway her, but I could tell just by looking at her that it didn’t work.

“I asked you, if this baby was yours Clifton. Is the baby that’s in Charmaine’s stomach your seed?”  She asked again.

His long dreads fell over his face when he dropped his head.

“I don’t know.” He said as he dropped his gaze and stared at the floor.

“Is my husband the father of your child?” Kiana asked.

“Yes.” I said knowing that my answer had destroyed her.

Truthfully, I should have said ‘Maybe’ because the fact of the matter is, I truly didn’t know. Brick was not the only man that I slept with when I got pregnant. But he was the one with the longest paper. So, his bank account made him this child’s father.

Without saying a word. Kiana raised her gun and shot Brick.

“Ahhhh!!!” I screamed then took off and ran to my car. Brick was on his own. Because I wasn’t getting shot for anyone.
