Kiana
“So, what is your idea? How do you wanna take care of this nigga?” I asked Brick as I retwisted his damp dreadlocks. His hair was so long and thick that I hated washing it and doing his re twist. But even though I hated it I refused to let another bitch put their hands in his head. The only person that could do his hair was me.
“The other day it was obvious that Rahlo was a fucking informant. A goddamn rat. The nigga was calling out names and shit. Look, I don’t care how we’re going to do it. I just want it done. I can’t understand why this nigga would do this shit.” Brick said. The hurt and anger in his voice by Rahlo’s betrayal cut him deep.
Today was the first day that I was even able to ask him any questions. After their meeting a couple of days ago. Brick was so pissed off behind Rahlo’s betrayal that he didn’t even want to speak his name.
The only reason he was allowing me, yes, I said allowing me, to reference Rahlo is because he had just received a text from him asking if he was still going to meet with the connect.
“My insider told me that he was pulled over and had so much uncut bricks in his car that there was no way they couldn’t take him in. She said when they started questioning Rahlo, he started singing like Beyoncé.
She even said this nigga brought my name up and my clientele. We can’t make this one look like a murder, because all signs will point to us. We gotta be smart about this and not act off pure emotion.” I said to Brick. I could feel my blood pressure rising. I hated to sound like a savage, but the thought of killing Rodney Rawlings was making my pussy wet.
“Babe, I don’t care what he was caught with or where they found it. He knows the game. He... He...Ki, why the fuck are you rubbing on me like that?” Brick asked as he looked at me curiously. The smirk on his face let me know that he knew exactly why I was rubbing all over him.
“I’m done with your hair. Mama needs some attention daddy.” I whispered into his ear then ran my tongue down the side of his neck. I was so turned on that I couldn’t sit still. The conversation that we were having, along with the fact we were back living together had me extremely excited. After living apart for six months we had a lot of making up to do.
I straddled his lap and started gyrating on him. My pussy was so wet that I could feel my juices soaking through his sweat pants.
“I’m not fucking you Kiana. Getcho ass up.” Brick smirked. I could tell he wanted me to beg him for the dick, but I refused to beg for what was already mine.
“You not fucking me? Then why is your dick so hard? My pussy is so wet Brick. I know you want some.” I said while kissing the side of his face then sticking my tongue in his ear.
“Ummm. Damn. Stop Kiana.” Brick moaned as I grinded on his lap. The smooth cotton of his sweatpants against my sensitive clit had me ready to explode. I was so horny that the friction against my clit without any penetration was damn near all I needed before I started squirting on his lap.
“Babe, I’m about to cum.” I moaned while grinding hard against him.
“Get your nut babe. Cum on daddy’s lap.” Brick said as he watched me work for my own nut. This was the kind of freaky fun things that he and I had done throughout our marriage. He would torture me and make me grind against his dick and get my own nut before he would have sex with me. I loved it.
There was something about him watching me that turned me on. It felt so good that tears started coming to my eyes. Rocking back and forth and grinding hard, the tightness in my stomach let me know that I was about to erupt.
“Ooouuu Brick!!” I screamed as cum shot out of me like a busted fire hydrant. The panties that I still wore and Brick’s sweatpants were soaking wet. My chest heaved up and down as I fought to catch my breath.
“I guess you really needed to cum.” Brick laughed before he gave me the most sensual kiss. Even though I had just cum so hard that my pussy hurt. That kiss had my pussy vibrating and I needed some dick.
“Make me cum again.” I begged. I was on the verge of insanity and he knew it.
“I guess I can do that.” He said as he raised me off his lap and stood up. The entire front of his light gray pants were now dark gray from the heavy squirt session that I had just unleashed on his lap.
“Can I suck some of that wetness off?” I asked as he bent me over the table. We were nasty like that. Our intense sex life was the reason I stayed away from Brick so long. It devastated me to think that he would be as freaky with another woman as he was with me. He and I did everything, so I couldn’t understand what he needed another bitch for.
“Nah, these are the only lips I want right now.” He hissed as he slid into my sopping wet pussy slowly. The way he entered me going in deep and slow felt so good that I wanted to praise God. He attacked my G-spot like it owed him money and I could no longer hold my screams in.
“Ohhh Brick. Oh God!” I screamed as I threw my ass back hard. His heavy balls slapped against my clit causing me to squirt all over the floor.
“Shhh!! Bae be quiet. The girls are downstairs in the movie theater. I don’t want them running up here.” He said as he slammed into me, moaning just as loud as I was. I didn’t pay him any attention because he knew that anytime the girls were in the movie room nothing could bring them out.
I could hear my phone ringing for the 6th time since Brick and I started making love. But I refused to tell him to stop. Especially since I was quite sure that it was my mother calling.
“I’m about to cum in this pussy Ki. I’m cumming.” Brick screamed as his body went stiff and his dick throbbed and pulsated inside of me.
All I could say after a session like that was, “Damn Brick.” I seriously needed a nap after a session like that.
“I’ma have your ass committed. You get super horny when it’s time to be judge, jury, and executioner. Go call your mama. I know that was her calling back to back.” He said and smacked me on the butt.”
I knew he was right. Looking at the clock, I saw that it was after 3pm. My mom wanted everyone at her house around 6. I wasn’t looking forward to this dinner. Feelings that I never had to deal with where running crazy in my mind.
“What kind of man just ups and leaves their family and comes back after twenty-five years?” I asked myself as I grabbed my cell phone.
I frowned in disgust when I saw who the missed calls and text messages were coming from. The name showed on the screen mocking me. As if the tons of missed calls and text messages wasn’t enough, the damn phone started ringing in my hand.
“HELLO?!” I said into the phone with major attitude. This bitch had a lot of nerve calling my phone back to back like we were friends.
“Kiana, please don’t hang up. It’s an emergency.” Charmaine said speaking fast into the phone. I could hear the urgency in her voice, but I didn’t care. If she thought I was the one to save her or help her with anything. She was sadly mistaken.
“Bitch, you got a lot of nerve calling my fucking...”
“Rahlo is trying to set y’all up.” Charmaine blurted into the phone. I already knew that, but the fact that she called to warn me shocked me. She had purposely attempted to destroy my life. So, I just assumed that being setup would be right up her alley.
“Excuse me?” Was all I could say. I refused to say anything else.
“Kiana, I wanna apologize for all the drama I unleashed in your life. You were always like a sister to me and I was so wrong for doing what I did to you. You had a mother that loved you more than anything and I had no real family and I was envious of that. Even though you were like my sister, I was so jealous of you and Aunt Avalon’s relationship. As far as this baby, I’m not 100% sure that the baby is Brick’s. It could be Flex’s or Rahlo’s.
I only said that it was his because I was still looking for a way to hurt you. I thought it would make me feel better about myself, but it didn’t. Vicky really fucked me up. I’m so sorry Ki.” She said then burst into sobs.
Knowing that the baby that Charmaine was carrying may not belong to my husband made a weight lift off my shoulder. It didn’t make me feel any better that my husband had fucked her, but I prayed that once the baby was born and proven not to be his, that I’d be able to put this whole betrayal behind me.
I wanted to hate Charmaine, she had crossed every line that qualified her to be punishable by death. But as I listened to her, I couldn’t do it. My mind had been made up earlier, but just hearing the pain in her voice made me change my mind. My heart wouldn’t allow me to leave Jayden a motherless child.
“Charmaine what you’re saying makes no sense. My mother gave you everything. Everything we had was yours. There was no reason-”
“But she was your mom Kiana, not mine. Aunt Avalon was great. She gave me a lot, but she couldn’t give me what I was missing. Which was a mother’s love because she wasn’t my mother.
If I had to raise your girls without you or Brick, even if I gave them the world. They would still be missing something because they wouldn’t have you.” Charmaine said.
I hated to admit it, but she was right. I’d never understand the abandonment issues she dealt with because I always had my mother. All I could do was sigh.
“Charmaine, listen-”
“No, you listen. I’m going to make this quick. Rahlo made a deal with the Feds for immunity. He agreed to set Brick up to receive king pin charges and you for fraud, tax evasion, and identity theft.
The feds are trying to get a hold of your clientele list. I know that I did you wrong Ki, but I wasn’t going to let him send you to prison because of his mistakes.
He got caught with pure Cocaine in his car and to avoid doing life, he cooperated. The connect that he wants Brick to meet tonight is an undercover agent and they’re going to use Vicky as the tester.
Rahlo won’t be wearing a wire tonight, instead they’re going to wire Vicky up. Just in case Brick gets suspicious and asks him to strip, he’ll be able to act offended.” Charmaine said.
I was stunned by her admission. As long as I had been in the game, I would’ve never thought to tap the clucker.
“Thank you, Charmaine.” Was all I could say.
“I know I made a mess of things, but please don’t take it out on my mother. Vicky wasn’t shit, but she doesn’t deserve to be caught in the crossfires. All she wants to do is get high in peace. Take care Kiana.” Charmaine said and hung up the phone.
I was so lost in thought that I didn’t feel Brick when he came and sat beside me until he put his hand around my waist.
“What was that about?” He asked staring at me.
“That was Charmaine.” I sighed. I looked at my wedding band, because I couldn’t bring myself to look at him while speaking about her. “She said Rahlo convinced the feds to put the wire on Vicky tonight. Just in case you decided to make him take his clothes off. That nigga thinks he’s smart.” I laughed.
Before Brick could respond. My phone rang again. Looking at the phones screen, I could see that it was my mother calling.
“We’re getting dressed, Ma. We’ll be there in a couple of hours.” I said instead of saying hello.
“Hi Key-Key Bear.”
My whole body stiffened at the masculine voice that came from my mother’s phone. My brain temporarily stopped working. A voice that deep and powerful could never come from my mother’s mouth.
“Who is this?” I said already knowing the answer. But I didn’t know what else to say. Was I supposed to call him Daddy, Calvin, or Sir?
He chuckled nervously. Which let me know that he was just as nervous as I was.
“It’s your ol’man. It’s Calvin. But, you already knew that. I know you have questions Kiana and I promise you that I’ll answer everything after we eat this marvelous dinner that Avalon prepared. I can’t wait to see you Key-Key Bear.” He said and hung up.
I couldn’t speak. He spoke with so much authority that it shocked me. The way he took over the conversation reminded me of Brick.
“Are you ok?” Brick asked.
“I’m not sure.” I answered honestly. “Let’s get the girls ready.” I couldn’t think of anything else to say. I felt like I needed to be moving around because sitting still was making me nervous.
It was 5:45 by the time we left our house. After prying the girls out of the movie room, getting them dressed, along with styling my hair and doing my makeup, time had slipped away from us.
“We’re here. I’m assuming that Bentley Mulsanne belongs to your ol’man.” Brick said. My mouth dropped to the floor at the sight of the $300,000 luxury vehicle.
“I definitely wasn’t expecting this. Somehow I assumed his life was shit and that he would be a maintenance man in a high school or some other lame job.” I said honestly.
“Maintenance men don’t drive Mulsanne’s.” Brick joked as he got out of the car and opened the door for me and our daughters.
“Daddy whose car is this?” Ava asked.
“Is this grandma’s car?” Elise asked.
“We’re about to get the answers to those questions and so much more.” Brick said.
I didn’t say anything. I just walked beside them. Usually I would just walk in the house but this time I didn’t. I rang the doorbell instead.
“Mommy, why are you ringing the doorbell?” Ava asked. I still didn’t speak.
“Calm down and relax Kiana.” Brick said as he pulled me in for a hug. My man knew how to make me feel better.
“Why are you ringing the doorbell? Come in here.” My mother said. I had to do a double take when I looked at her. She was stunning. Her hunter green form fitting dress, gold bangles, and gold heels made her look like a model. She always dressed cute and sexy. But the glow she was wearing made everything seem more noticeable.
“Grandma!!!” My girls screamed and ran inside. Then stopped in their tracks.
“Grandma is this the boy from the picture?” Ava asked.
“What picture and what boy?” My mom asked with a bit of nervousness in her tone. But I knew she knew what Ava was talking about. Because standing behind her was a man that could be Kennedy’s identical twin. My eyes watered when I took in his 6’2” height, Werther’s Original caramel skin tone, piercing dark brown eyes, and well-groomed salt and pepper beard.
“Oh my God.” I croaked. I could feel my body trembling and knees getting weak. If it wasn’t for Brick’s strength, I would’ve hit the floor.
“Kiana, are you ok baby.” My mom asked as she wiped my tears away like only a mother could. I shook my head because I was so choked up that I couldn’t speak.
“Kiana, Clifton, Ava, and Elise this is Calvin Kennedy. Calvin these are your granddaughters, your son-in-law, and your daughter.” My mom said as tears came to her eyes. Her voice cracked as she introduced her family, his family, to each other. As I looked at her, I could see the pride and happiness on her face.
“She really loves this nigga.” I thought to myself. I was pissed off.
“Mommy, you have a daddy too?” Ava asked as she ran to Calvin like she knew all four years of her life.
“Hi Grandpa!” Ava and Elise said while running to Calvin.
He dropped to his knees and embraced them like he was waiting to wrap them in his well-toned arms all his life. The hug he gave them was so protective and so fatherly that it seemed normal. I hated it. Who the fuck did he think he was bonding with my damn kids? I was about to say something to interrupt this moment until Brick squeezed my hand to silence me.
“Hi little ladies. It’s so nice to meet y’all.” Calvin said as he smiled at them. It was no doubt in my mind that if Kennedy had lived to be a grown man that he would look exactly like Calvin Kennedy.
“Ava and Elise, I made y’all some sugar cookies. Y’all can have two a piece before dinner.” My mom said.
“Ok. Bye Grandpa.” The girls said and ran into the kitchen.
Standing up, I couldn’t help but notice how handsome and fit my father was. Since I wasn’t speaking Brick stepped forward.
“It’s nice to meet you. I’m Clifton Brick.”
“Likewise, Avalon speaks highly of you.” Calvin said as he shook Bricks hand then turned to me.
“The last time I saw you, you were no taller than my knee. It’s so good to see you again Key-Key Bear.”
The dam broke. I wanted so much to be strong, hard, and difficult but I couldn’t.
The moment Calvin wrapped his strong arms around me I turned into the five-year-old little girl that he left standing in the kitchen over twenty-five years ago. He felt so familiar to me. He felt like Brick. Like he would always protect me.
“How could you just leave us? Then you pop up after twenty-five years and act like we’re supposed to fall into a family routine. This was a mistake. We gotta go.” I said.
I was so angry that I wanted to throw something. I didn’t want to feel like I needed him, and I didn’t want to pretend like we could be a family.
“Kiana calm down baby.” My mother said.
She seemed uneasy. But Calvin was unbothered, as if he expected me to behave that way. He acted as if I was behaving like a five-year-old having a temper tantrum.
“Avalon. Baby how long before dinner is done?” Calvin asked.
“About fifteen minutes.” She said as she looked at me like I was going to do something dangerous.
“Kiana let’s have a quick conversation before dinner is finished. Brick please join us. I want Kiana to be comfortable.” Calvin said then kissed my mother before escorting me and Brick to my mother’s in-home library. Calvin walked like a man with confidence. He walked with his head held high and shoulders squared.
I tried to focus on everything in the office other than Calvin. I looked at all the books that lined the walls. Books that I knew for a fact that my mother had never opened. She just like the way they made the room look. I took a seat on the love seat with Brick while Calvin took a seat in the wingback chair.
“Kiana, let me start off by saying, I’m so sorry that I left you and your mother. Back then I was so strung out that I wasn’t going to be any good to you or your mother. After Kennedy died, I felt like such a failure.
If I had my addiction under control, I would’ve been home instead of running the streets. That guilt was too heavy for me to carry. Avalon hated me back then and I couldn’t blame her. I had put our family through a lot.
The only person that needed me back then was you. But I knew that if I continued the path that I was going, that you would’ve eventually begin to resent me too. I knew that Avalon would protect you with her life, and that gave me the strength to leave.
When I left, I didn’t think that I’d be gone for over twenty-five years. My goal was to go to rehab and get my life together. I know that things are a little strange and uncomfortable, but I really want to be a part of your family.” Calvin said. I could see the sincerity on his face and hear it in his voice, but I was unwilling to accept what he was offering.
“Calvin, are you serious?” I laughed. I couldn’t think if anything else to say.
“Kiana, I know this sounds cliché, but I’ve always been in the shadows watching you. When you graduated college then got in your burgundy Lexus. The note that was on your car with the $500 came from me. When you got recognized amongst your peers as the top 100 accountants in the state of Florida, I was there. The roses that were on the hood of your car were placed there by me.” Calvin admitted.
I was lost for words. I had never told anyone about those incidents. I was convinced that someone was stalking me. Brick saw that I was lost for words and decided to use that opportunity to speak.
“Are you married Calvin? Do you have any other kids?” Brick asked.
“No. I never got married or had any other kids. I wanted my family back. So, I wasn’t going to start a new one.” Calvin said as he stared at me.
“What have you been doing with your life Calvin? It seems like you’ve been doing pretty well in the past twenty-five years without us. I’m assuming that the gorgeous Bentley outside belongs to you.
Also, no matter how subtle your ensemble is, the fact that you’re dressed in Ferragamo from head to toe lets me know that you haven’t been a slouch. Did you just come back to complete the image of a perfect black family?” I asked.
Calvin laughed, as if I had just told a joke.
“You act so much like Avalon that it’s scary. I own Kennedy Real Estate Group in Kansas City. I want you and Brick to be a part of my life Kiana.” He said sincerely. He looked so much like Kennedy that I wanted to cry.
“You know what Calvin. I don’t mean any disrespect, but I think I’ll pass. I’ve been doing fine all this time without you. I think I’ll be good the remainder of my life without you.” I said as I got up to leave the library.
“It was nice meeting you Calvin.” Brick said as he got up to follow me out the door.
I was filled with so many different emotions that my head started to hurt. I refused to let this stranger knock me off my square with his talk of family and togetherness. Fuck him and fuck that.
“Kiana, baby girl. You can walk out if you want, but you and Brick are already in too deep. Y’all are already a part of my life and I plan to keep it that way.” Calvin said in a very encrypted manner that halted both Brick and my steps before we reached the door. I could feel his body stiffen and tense at Calvin’s statement.
“Say what? Nigga, what the fuck do you mean by that?” Brick asked. The polite tone that he had earlier flown completely out the window.
“Kiana. Clifton. Please have a seat. I’ll be more than happy to explain everything.” Calvin said with a perfect smile looking like a male model instead of a fifty-five-year-old father and grandfather.
I looked over my shoulder at Brick to see what he wanted to do. Following his lead, I went back to the loveseat and sat beside my husband. My .22 was in my purse. So, if I had to take Calvin out of this world. I wouldn’t hesitate to do so.
“We’re sitting. What are you talking about Calvin?” Brick asked. The polite Brick was gone, and the no nonsense Brick had entered the picture.
“Do y’all know who I am? I mean besides Kiana’s father and your father in law. Do you know who I really am?” Calvin asked.
“Why don’t you tell us? Instead of playing the name game.” Brick said.
I didn’t say a word. I just sat stoically with my leg crossed and my purse on my lap. Just in case I needed to pull out and fire off a few rounds. Calvin may have been my father, but this was my first time seeing him since I was a jit. To protect my husband, I’d send two to my father’s head with no hesitation.
“Fair enough.” Calvin said. “Allow me to reintroduce myself. I’m the man that supplies you with the purest Dominican cocaine and the rawest heroin that you’ve ever sold. I’m you’re connect, and we have a problem.”
At the statement that came out of Cavin’s mouth, shit damn near oozed out of my ass. No matter how tight I tried to squeeze my sphincter, it still felt like I was having a bowel movement. His admission was the last thing that I expected to hear.
Even Brick look dumbfounded. Brick had been in the game since he was twelve-years-old. He had been distributing for his connect CJ, for over twenty years. But had never met him.
“CJ?” Brick questioned clearly caught off guard.
“CJ or Calvin James. I answer to both. But like I said we have a problem.” Calvin repeated.
“What’s the problem?” I asked. I had a feeling that I already knew, but I wanted to make sure he was giving out real information.
“Smart girl.” Calvin said proudly. “We have a rat in the camp. That problem needs to be exterminated. Which is one of the many reasons why I’m here. After that’s done, I plan to hand this business over to my son in law. Then marry the only woman I’ve ever loved and be a fulltime daddy to my daughter and granddaughters. I sort of like the way grandpa sounds.” Calvin said as he stared at me.
Though he didn’t show it, I could tell that Brick was still shocked that his father in law and his connect were the same person.
“Wait a minute. So, you’re here to take care of the problem that Kiana and I are about to take care of?” Brick asked.
“If that problem is Rahlo the Rat then yes. The connect or federal agent that he’s supposed to be setting you up with is on my payroll. Rodney Rawlings has to die.” Calvin said.
“I’ll be damn. This is some funny shit.” I said then burst into laughter.
“How so?” Calvin asked.
“We were just discussing ways to get rid of that problem. The matter is sensitive because he reports to an agent. A straight up murder will point directly to me and Brick since he’s dropped our name.
So, no bullets are allowed. I’m thinking strychnine. He won’t smell it or taste it. He wants Brick to meet the so called new connect tonight. We need this taken care of tonight.” I said. Calvin nodded his head as if he agreed with everything I said.
“I’m thinking Cerbera Odollam, Cascabela Thevetia, and Atropa Belladonna or in layman’s term Suicide Tree, Yellow Oleander, and Nightshade. A few of the deadliest plants that I have access to in the basement.”
We were so engrossed in our conversation. That we all jumped at the sound of my mother’s voice.
“Ma...Mommy...Wha...” I stuttered and stammered because I couldn’t think of the proper way to formulate my words. The last thing I wanted was to have my mother’s holier than thou, churchy ass over hearing us talking about killing someone. I cut my eye at Calvin because common sense should’ve told him to lock the damn door.
“Avalon, baby. I...” Calvin stuttered clearly in shock at my mother’s presence.
Holding her hand up to silence him. She walked up to Calvin and lightly and lovingly caressed his face as he stared up at her. He may have been a king pin, but it was obvious that my mother ran shit. I didn’t miss the enormous engagement ring on her left hand. The sight of it damn near rendered me speechless. She looked directly into Calvin’s eyes while she spoke to all three of us.
“This is how we’re going to do this. Kiana, you’re going to call Reshelle and tell her that your dad is back and you’re having a gathering at your mother’s house. Since the so-called connect is on Calvin’s payroll, Cal you’re going to tell him to reschedule until tomorrow night. But Rahlo will be dead by then.
When the agent tells Rahlo that he needs to reschedule and he calls you Brick, invite him over to meet your father in law and let him know that Reshelle will be here too. I’m going to boil the leaves that I have and make a concoction that he can’t come back from. It’ll look like he suffered from a heart attack. That way when an autopsy is performed, they won’t find traces of poison in his system, like they would with strychnine.
It’ll take about twelve hours for the poison to kick in, but by that time, he should be home and bed. The authorities will find him in a few days after he misses a few of their meetings. Now that that’s out the way. Dinner is done. Let’s eat.” My mom said as she bent down, kissed my dad’s lips, then walked out of the library like she hadn’t just given us instructions on how to commit the perfect murder.
