Chapter 15

Brick

“Ooouu God Cal. I need you baby. Please don’t leave me again. Please!”

“I’m not going anywhere. After tonight, you won’t have a choice but to move with me. Now come sit on Daddy’s dick and show me how much you love me and this dick.”

“What the fuck?” was all I could say to myself when I went down to the basement and saw my mother in law and my connect, or should I say father in law, fucking like rabbits. I was caught off guard by the sight. The last thing I expected to see was Calvin dropping to his knees and licking Avalon from her asshole to her clit.

Avalon and Calvin were so engrossed in the act, that they didn’t even realize that I had descended the carpeted stairs and was standing no more than fifteen feet away from them.

For the second time tonight, Avalon and her actions had me completely speechless. For as long as I’d known her, I always looked at my mother in law like a second mother. Even though my mother and I were extremely close, Viola had always been rough around the edges.

Avalon on the other hand took a softer approach to motherhood. I had only known her to be the type of woman that baked cakes and cookies, attended her granddaughter’s soccer practice, and help with bake sales.

So, the fact that she had access to deadly poisons, could mix deadly cocktails, and obviously ride the skin off a niggas dick had me astonished. I could feel my dick getting hard, and that fact embarrassed me.

“Get your ass upstairs.” I thought to myself as I climbed back up the stairs and close the door as gently as I could. I knew that if Kiana knew that I had seen her mother fucking and was turned on by the sight, she wouldn’t hesitate to put another bullet in my ass.

I had originally walked down to the basement to tell Avalon and Calvin that the guest of honor was here, but I had gotten so much more than I expected. Even though it may not have been any of my business, I was curious about my mother in law’s involvement with things I would’ve never guessed she was interested in.

Pulling out my burner phone, I called the only person that I knew could give me the answers I needed. My mother’s affirmation of, ‘I’ve known Avalon Bradshaw a whole lot longer than you have. You’re not ready for the gutter shit Avalon is capable of. She wasn’t always so clean spirited. She went through a lot to get to where she is today.’ kept playing on repeat in my head as I listened to the phone ring.

“What the fuck you want?” My mother asked using the same greeting she used anytime I called her.

“Go outside. I need to talk to you.” I said.

“I’m busy and it’s drizzling outside. Call me later.”

“Nah, take your ass outside. We need to talk.” I said cutting her off before she could protest.

I knew she was at my sisters second grand opening, but this was life or death to me. I could hear my mother grumbling as she walked outside, but I didn’t care. She always had a slick mouth, so the fact that she was talking crazy now didn’t bother me in the least bit.

“Alright nigga. I’m outside what the hell you want? If they eat all the flambé sweet potato cupcakes while I’m out here talking to you, I’ma whoop your ass. Now what you want?” My mother asked.

“Ma, I need some info from you. I need to know what you were talking about when you said I’m not ready for the gutter shit that Avalon was apart of.” I said ignoring her anger about missing my sister’s signature dessert.

She gasped, and that sound coming from her mouth stunned me. My mother was quiet for so long that I thought she had hung up.

“Ma.”

“Baby, her past isn’t important. Why...”

For the first time ever, I could hear genuine compassion in my mother’s voice. Since the day I was born, Viola Brick always talked reckless, so to hear the concern and worry in her voice had me on high alert.

“Ma, Rahlo has been talking to the Feds. You couldn’t make the dinner here tonight, but Kiana’s pops is my fucking connect.” I said still stunned at the fact that I had unknowingly married my connects daughter.

“CJ is... Get the fuck outta here. Are you serious? Damn I would’ve never guessed that it was him.” My mom said just as shocked as I was. When I first met Kiana, I spent good money on a background check on her, and her father’s name never came up. I’d be tripping off this information for a while.

“Yeah. I’m dead ass serious. Me, Ki, and her Pops thought we were having a discrete discussion, but Avalon snuck in without us knowing she was there and dropped a bomb on us about the right way to exterminate the problem. Ma, it had all of us fucked up. Especially CJ. He sat there speechless and amazed for like ten minutes.” I said as I recalled the look of shock that covered my father in law’s face after Avalon told us about the concoction she was going to make.

Viola sighed before she spoke. “Baby, have you ever heard the name Avencio Estevez?”

At the mention of the old Dominican Hustler my ears perked up.

“Of course, I heard of him. He’s...”

“He’s Avalon’s father.” Viola said. Her revelation stunned me to the point that I almost dropped the phone.

Before Avencio was murdered by his righthand man, in the 80’s, he supplied the entire Northeast Florida, with guns, drugs, and women. When he died, it was said that he had no children, so the fact that my mother was saying he did have a child and the child was my mother in law caught me off guard.

“Yeah, Avencio loved Avalon’s mother, but he was married, and twenty years older than his mistress. His wife never had kids, so in order to bring his daughter around, he told his wife that Avalon was his deceased brother’s child. He loved Avalon, she was his only child and he made sure that he taught her everything about the game.

But he wouldn’t let her sell drugs. So, they came up with a plan to make her boyfriend think that the dope he was selling was something she found while sorting mail at the post office. Calvin had no idea that all the dope he was flooding the city with was courtesy of Avalon. She was the mastermind behind everything.

On top of that, his wife who was a botanist taught Avalon how to mix certain fertilizers and boil certain leaves from certain plants to inflict death. Several of Avencio’s enemies ended up six feet under because of her skills.” Viola said.

“Damn.” I thought to myself as I listened to the words that my mother spoke. I was speechless. Even if I wanted to say something, I had no idea of what to say. Avalon came from the loins of one of the most thorough-est Dominicans to ever grace the planet. I always respected her, but finding this out, made me respect her even more.

“Even though Avalon has always been the sweetest person you’d ever meet, she is the real deal. Don’t let the Suzie Homemaker act fool you. The last person that I knew she used one of her concoctions on was Vicky.”

“Vicky? I thought her and Vicky used to be best friends?” I asked shocked.

On the one occasion that I did hold an actual conversation with Charmaine’s snake ass, she told me her mother was raped and didn’t know who her birth father was. I just assumed that the guy either drugged Vicky or she started taking drugs to cope with the trauma or being violated. I had no idea that Avalon was the cause of Vicky being so fucked up.

“Yes Vicky.” Viola said. “Vicky Valley was always a hot in the ass bitch. That hoe would fuck a nigga while his wife was in the next room. That’s why I shot your daddy’s no-good ass. He had the audacity to fuck that dirty bitch in my house. Then when he fucked the bitch, she was all the way strung out.” Viola said and sucked her teeth.

“But anyway, Vicky and Avalon grew up close because they were neighbors and their mothers were very close. They were close until Vicky fucked Avencio. Avalon was furious because right after she fucked Avencio she ended up pregnant with Charmaine.”

I damn near dropped the phone. The realization that Charmaine and Avalon were sisters fucked me up.

“Wait a minute. Hold up. Are you saying Avencio Estevez is the father of Avalon and Charmaine? Charmaine is Kiana’s aunt? But Charmaine said she nor Vicky knows who her father is.” I said secretly praying I was reading too much into what she said.

“Yes Charmaine and Avalon are sisters, and your stupid ass fucked her damaged goods ass. Charmaine doesn’t know who her father is, but Vicky and Avalon always knew. Even though he was married, he had been dating Ms. Marlena ever since she was seventeen. Avencio fucking Vicky’s hot to trot ass drove Avalon’s mother insane and she decided to eat her gun.

As close as Avalon and her father were, that betrayal caused a rift between them and no amount of apologies he gave fixed them. Avencio started using PCP after losing the love of his life and his daughter.

He was so fucked up because of that shit that he attacked his friend and his friend shot him. Avalon blamed Vicky for the loss of her mother and father, but because Vicky had given birth to her sister, she didn’t kill her. Avalon laced her drink and the rest is history. If Avalon told you she’d make something for extermination, I can guarantee you that it’ll work.

Avalon is a great friend and an amazing woman, but if a person crosses her or the people she loves, she’s the grim reaper. But we’ll talk more later, I’m not about to miss my dessert because you didn’t do your homework. Love you baby.” Viola laughed and hung up.

After Viola hung up, all I could do was stand against the wall looking like a fool. She had told me things that I would’ve never thought of. The fact that everyone assumed Kiana and Charmaine were related, now made perfect sense. I already felt fucked up for betraying Kiana with her, now that I knew they were blood related, made me feel extra low.

“Hey. Did you go down there and tell them the nigga is here? The fact that I gotta break bread with that nigga is about to make me throw up. But the thought of murking his ass got my pussy super wet.” Kiana said as she lightly ran the tips of her coffin shaped nails over my chest.

Without saying a word to her or answering her question, I picked her up and wrapped her thick legs around my waist. The surprised yelp that slipped from her mouth would’ve made me laugh if my mind wasn’t so clouded.

“Brick what are you doing?” Kiana asked showing me the smile that made me fall in love with her before I even knew who she was.

“You make me feel like a kid with a crush Kiana. I love your pretty ass so much. After tonight, I think we should consider relocating. So much drama is here. We need a fresh start.” I said while kissing around her lips and down her neck.

“Mmmm. That feels good.” Kiana moaned.

I could feel her wetness seeping through her panties and my shirt. The feel of the soft grinding movements and hearing her soft sensual moans made my dick rock hard. As soon as I moved her hand from under her butt and in between her legs. The basement door opened, and Avalon and Calvin walked out with respirators on their face.

“There are four bedrooms in this house. Y’all couldn’t find one to go into?” Avalon smirked as she removed the respirator from her face.

As soon as she removed it, I saw everything that I hadn’t realized before. Her features and Charmaine’s were very much the same.

“We weren’t doing anything the two of you haven’t done before.” Kiana smirked. “Anyway, we just walked down here to tell y’all that the guest of dishonor is here. By the look of the gear that y’all are wearing, I assume everything is ready.” Kiana said getting straight to business.

“My fiancée has a lot of explaining to do later. After what I just seen, I gotta make sure to always stay on her good side.” Calvin said as he wrapped his arms around Avalon’s waist and kissed the side of her face. I could tell that he really loved her because the way he handled Avalon was the same way that I handled Kiana.

“Maybe I’ll explain and maybe I won’t.” She said turning around and kissing Calvin like she didn’t have an audience.

“Yuck.” Kiana joked as we climbed up the stairs.

As soon as we made it up the stairs Avalon took the lead.

“Ava and Elise. I hear baby shark still playing but I don’t hear y’all singing. Where...Oh hey Reshelle, hey Rahlo. I didn’t know you guys were here. Where are you guys coming from? Have you guys eaten.” Avalon asked when she walked in the kitchen. The way she flipped from mastermind killer to surprised hostess was funny as hell.

“Ms. Avalon, you look stunning. Ki invited me over. I’m actually on my way to work. But I’ll definitely take a to go plate. And Ava and Elise are on the couch knocked out. They literally OD’ed on the cookies.” Reshelle said smiling as she stood and gave Avalon a hug.

“How are you Ms. Avalon? I hope it’s ok that we stopped by. Brick told me we were celebrating tonight. So, I’m here to party.” Rahlo smiled.

Just hearing his voice made me want to put his brains on the floor. I was too angry to even speak. So, I let my wife do the talking.

“Well I’m glad you guys could stop by. There is someone special that I want you guys to meet. Reshelle I’ll fix you a to go plate, because I don’t want you to be late. Rahlo would you like a plate as well? Have you eaten?” Avalon asked as she continued to wear her award-winning smile. She was so good at acting that I couldn’t even see the callousness that hid behind her smile.

“No ma’am, I’m not hungry. But please tell me you have some pound cake. You know it’s my favorite.” Rahlo admitted.

“Rahlo and Reshelle, I’m so sorry we were gone so long, but Brick and I invited y’all here because we wanted to introduce y’all to someone special. I know y’all see that permanent glow that Mommy is wearing. Well it’s due to her long-lost love and the father of her kids. I want you guys to meet my daddy, Calvin Kennedy.” Kiana said like a proud little girl.

Reshelle’s mouth damn near hit the floor when Calvin’s 6’2” stature walked through the door. She looked him up hungrily like she wanted to jump on his dick in front of everybody. Avalon smirked when she saw Reshelle’s ‘I wanna fuck you look.’ Rahlo glared at her like he wanted to take her head off her shoulders.

“Dr. Reshelle and Rahlo. It’s so nice to meet you all. I’ve heard good things about both of you. Dr. Reshelle, are you sure that you must rush off? Since my granddaughters are asleep and have taking over the couch in the living room, we’re all in the basement shooting the breeze and catching up on old times.

And yes Rahlo, Avalon did prepare her famous buttery pound cake. It’s my favorite as well. Seems like we have something in common.” Calvin said in his business voice as he extended his right hand for Rahlo and Reshelle to shake.

“It’s so nice to meet you Sir. Unfortunately, I’m on a sixteen-hour rotation, so I really have to go. Hopefully, all of us can get together on the weekend. Until then you all have a great night. Mrs. Avalon thank you so much for dinner. Rahlo, I’ll see you tomorrow baby. Don’t forget we have tickets to see Lion King at the Florida Theatre at 7.” Reshelle said as she prepared to leave.

Like a possessive man, or a dog marking their territory by peeing on the thing it wanted, Rahlo grabbed Reshelle’s wrist and kissed her aggressively.

“I love you.” Rahlo said.

“Rahlo we know you love her. Now let Reshelle go and follow them to the basement before she’s late for work. Y’all are going to see each other tomorrow. Cal baby, can you help me bring these serving trays down to the basement.” Avalon asked still sounding like the perfect host.

“Of course Beautiful. Key-Key Bear, why don’t you escort our guest to the basement. Avalon and I will be right behind you guys.” Calvin said.

“Ok Daddy.” Kiana said showing off her beautiful smile.

Even though she was nervous about being reintroduced to him, I was glad to see her taking to him so well. She never said it, but I always knew that she wanted to reconnect and bond with the man she referred to as a sperm donor.

As we descended the stairs, I walked behind Rahlo because I refused to let a snake ass nigga walk behind me. And on some petty shit, I didn’t want him looking at my wife’s ass. He had already shown me his hand, even though he didn’t know it. As soon as we entered the plush, well decorated basement, I went in on his ass. Calvin had already made it perfectly clear that he didn’t want a rat in his presence.

“Goddamn, it’s nice as fuck down here. Avalon must be a part of the game too.” Rahlo said as he looked at the projector sized television, in-home fountain, and the custom-made aquarium filled with exotic colorful florescent fish. I could see his mind calculating. Probably deciding to add Avalon to the deposition.

“No sweetie, I’m not a part of the game. This is 100% Post Office retirement money and good investments.” Avalon lied as she poured her concoction in a clear tea mug and placed two slices of pound cake in front of him.

“I know how much you like my pound cake. So, eat as much as you like. I’m going upstairs and wash dishes.” Avalon said.

As if he hadn’t eaten in months, Rahlo inhaled both slices of the pound cake before cutting himself two more slices. He drank the concoction so fast that it was almost like it was never there.

“Speaking of the game is there something you want to tell me about your new connect? How long have you known him? Where’d you meet him?” I asked as I stared at the man that I had known since I was a kid.

I loved this nigga like a brother and to know that he betrayed me and my wife, made me want to put a hollow point in between his eyes.

Rahlo looked at me as if I had lost my mind.  He turned his eyes to Calvin as if he couldn’t believe that I was asking him that question in front of a stranger.

“Ummm...Brick what?” Rahlo asked as he poured more of what he thought was tea into his mug.

Before I could speak. Calvin interjected.

“Earlier today, Avalon made ten sugar cookies for Ava and Elise. When they got here, she told them that they could have two sugar cookies apiece before dinner.

Even though they had eaten their two, they wanted more. Ava came up with the idea that they could eat one more cookie and when their grandmother asked them what happened to it, they would say it fell on the floor and they put it in the trash so no one would eat the dirty cookie.

While we were in the hallway, we watched them eat four more sugar cookies. When we went in the kitchen and asked them what happened to the remaining sugar cookies do you know what they said?” Calvin asked. But before anyone could answer. He spoke again.

“When they got caught, they stuck to their story. They didn’t snitch each other out. So how is it that a three and four-year-old knows how to stick to the script, but you, a seasoned drug dealer doesn’t understand the concept of standing on your own two feet?” Calvin asked. The business persona he used earlier was completely gone.

“Daddy eat your pound cake.” Kiana joked as she laughed at the exchange in front of her.

“Nah, I don’t break bread with rats.” Calvin said.

“Rat?! Yo nigga who the fuck is you calling a rat? Nigga you don’t fucking know me. I don’t care if you’re my niggas father in law. I’ll go in your shit for the disrespect.” Rahlo screamed as he hopped up.

Calvin didn’t blink or even flinch at Rahlo’s outburst. Instead of saying anything, he smirked. Calvin pulled out his phone, dialed a number, then placed the call on speaker. When the person answered the phone, Rahlo’s dark skin turned white as a sheet.

“What’s good boss?”

“Agent Dylan. What time has the meeting been rescheduled for and what all information has Rodney Rawlings provided you with?” Calvin asked while staring at a visibly shaken Rahlo.

“Rahlo planted a bug in your son-in-law’s home. Luckily, Mr. Brick moved in with your daughter, which was a good thing because we didn’t bug her home. Rawlings also placed a tracking device under Brick’s Range Rover.” The man known as Agent Dylan said.

“Thank you, Dylan. Delete all the data about my son in law. Since you know where he is, come and remove the tracking device. There’s 20k in the planter to the left of the mailbox. It’s your compensation for having to leave your home this time of night.” Calvin said as he continued to stare directly into Rahlo’s face. His eye twitched the same way Kiana’s did when she was ready to put in work.

“Yes sir boss. No problem. I’ll be to your fiancée’s home in twenty minutes to remove the tracker.” Agent Dylan said. I could hear the smile in his voice knowing that he was now $20,000 richer.

Knowing that the Feds knew exactly where I was, made my heart stop. My so-called nigga was really a rat.

As soon as the phone call was disconnected, large visible sweat beads covered Rahlo’s face.

“After being married to my beautiful wife for eight years and having two beautiful kids with her, I thought I knew everything about her family. But I was wrong. Let me explain to you who my father in law is. Rodney Rawlings, meet my connect, CJ.” I said.

At the mention of the initials CJ, Rahlo became visibly sick. CJ had been our distributor ever since we were twelve years old. He knew exactly what the name meant. We heard several tales growing up about how CJ dealt with disobedience, but since we had never met him or knew anyone that had, we always assume that the man was a myth.

Rahlo opened his mouth to speak, but vomit was the only thing that came out.

“I paid your snitching ass a lot of money. By the time you were eighteen years old, you had already accumulated over three million dollars. In addition to personal reasons, I came here to leave your brains on the outside of your head. But I’m not. Kiana let’s go upstairs. I think Brick can take it from here. Oh Rahlo, you should be glad that ‘I Love You’ were your last words your Dr. friend.”  Calvin smirked.

“Do you need my assistance Baby?” Kiana asked as she kissed the side of my face.

“Nah, go upstairs.” I said as I stared at my former best friend without blinking.

“Ok. Let’s Go Daddy. Now you put that big ass ring on Mommy’s finger. What if she was married and had another man when you got here?” Kiana asked as she walked up the stairs.

“I would’ve killed him.” Calvin answered as he walked out of the basement and closed the door.

“Bri...Brick. Man it’s it’s not like that. It’s not what you think man.” Rahlo stuttered as sweat continued to pour from his skin. His hands shook violently as he sat in a pile of his vomit. The smell was horrendous, but I was too pissed off and upset to care.

“I loved you like a brother. I was the nigga making sure you had clean clothes on your back and food in your stomach. I made a way for you to live because your own family was too fucked up to care if you lived or died. And this is how you repay me?

You try and sell me out to the fucking Feds, try and get my wife locked up, and separate us from our kids, all because you didn’t have enough common sense not to speed while you had twenty bricks in the backseat of your car.

The fact that you even had that shit in your fucking car was stupid. But you try to end my life because you weren’t man enough to deal with your dumb ass choices. You rat my family out like a bitch!” I screamed as I got up and punched Rahlo in the face.

The pain in my chest from Rahlo’s betrayal was equivalent to what I felt the night Kiana left me and took my daughters. This nigga was my family and knowing that he stabbed me in the back to save himself was an offense that had to be punished by death.

“Brick, I’m sorry. I know I fucked up but, I didn’t have a choice, man. If I didn’t answer their questions and tell them what they wanted to know the feds were going to give me life. I was trying to make it to Charmaine’s prenatal appointment on time and forgot they were on the floor in the back. I’m sorry man. Please...please don’t kill me bruh. I’ll leave town and disappear. You’ll never see me again. I swear.” Rahlo cried like the bitch he truly was.

As I watched him on his hands and knees groveling for his life, I felt sick to my stomach all over again. He wasn’t even man enough to go out with some dignity.

“Rahlo, get your bitch ass up and get out.” I said through clenched teeth.

He didn’t deserve a peaceful death, he deserved something slow and painful. But Avalon’s way of getting his snitching ass out the picture wouldn’t raise any red flags.

“Brick, I’m real sorry about...”

“Cut the shit Rahlo. Just get the fuck out.” I said not even giving him the chance the throw out a useless apology that wouldn’t fix shit.

Without saying a word, Rahlo nodded his head up and down, drank the remainder of the concoction in his mug, and hung his head in shame as he climbed the stairs.
