Week 6: Meditate
“The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind.”
~Caroline Myss
Life today is hectic. It’s a consequence of the dramatic increase in productivity we’ve experienced as a species, as well as the massive boom in population. We’re busy all the time, there’s always so much clamoring for our attention and there are so many other people to accommodate and complicated new social structures to navigate around. This external reality inevitably imprints itself into the psyche: from dawn until dusk worldly matters are always pressing on your mind. Your mind can’t really sustain this constant onslaught and remain balanced and clear. All sorts of clutter and detritus tend to collect and crowd out all room for introspection and peace. You have to completely clear the mind on a regular basis in order to prevent this buildup, and meditation is a powerful way to achieve this.
Countless historical figures and enlightened individuals have lauded the practice of meditation as the best way for achieving inner tranquility on Earth. It has the benefit of truly helping bring the mind, and consequently the body under the control of the will and brings a clarity to all other thought processes that will help you truly be able to achieve anything you put your mind to.
Weekly challenge:
Set 10-15 minutes every morning before the bustle of the day begins aside to sit in silence and meditate. To do this, find a quiet, comfortable place to sit and close your eyes. Breathe slowly and deeply through your belly and allow thoughts to pass through your head – don’t chase them down or try to hold them. Let them go and return to your breathing. Eventually, you will reach a point where your awareness is completely on the present moment and nothing else. Do this and you will reap the rewards throughout the day. Read more on the subject – this is especially
important so that you can know ahead of time the changes that will come as you continue to practice it daily.
