Continue along rue Geoffroy-l’Asnier until you come to rue François Miron. Turn right and then immediately left onto rue Tiron. Follow this as it turns into rue des Ecouffes and you will come to rue des Rosiers. This ‘street of rosebushes’ smells more of pastrami and borscht these days thanks to the numerous restaurants and shops that have turned it into the heart of Paris’ most famous Jewish quarter.
Known as ‘the Pletzl’ in Yiddish, this is one of the city’s most vibrant and colourful areas. Jews first began to settle here as far back as the 13th century. There was even more immigration in the 19th century, particularly from Eastern Europe and Jews from all over North Africa began to arrive after World War II.
